Re: RWD reduction box

Recently got asked by a family friend: Do electric cars even need gears?

I thought this was an great opportunity to stick my head out of Stephens Porsche, and record my answer to the question as a video:

The question is excellent, because many people think you can just skip the transmission ...

You know what, I stand by what I said. Sure, you combined the ZombieVerter output with the OVMS app and added your own module code. But the result is still your telemetry app, that doesn’t need to fear Tesla’s!

Excellent build, highlights from the short visit:

Re: Mini Mainboard design flaw

Good timing, we were about to test the mini board with our little motor on the desk for the EV kit.

Saved me a headache, surprised this didn't show up on previous mainboard iterations, or did you re-work the power supply for mini?

Re: Simplest possible HV wiring schematic

It's a good question, yes a "DC rail" is a High Voltage bus.

The inverter doesn't have to be "at one end", it is a consumer, like heater or DC-DC, their position in the circuit diagram there are interchangeable. It looks like the inverter was shown on the very right to clear the diagram up.

It ...

Can I simply add these two modules to my existing pack and rewire the BMS to accommodate the original 96 cells?

How exciting, can you please watch the video I made here and tell me if that's helpful:

I believe the concept is that during charging some current is bypassed around a high cell, but not sure.

This is great that's coming up. Thats exactly what I thought about BMS for a while. It took me ages to understand how simple they really are!

Hello,

second of these, I explain battery balancing for you with a few animations, and go into some edge cases too.

By the end of it you should have a grasp of:

Why bother with battery balancing?
What is battery balancing?
What happens if you have a weak cell in your battery pack?
What is ...

Re: Tesla Charger Support thread gen2/gen3

In an old video Damien posted when he initially got the Gen 3 charger working, he soldered in a CAN termination resistor onto module 3 inside the charger. Is that still accurate with the V3 control board? I see on the board two locations to solder for external CAN. I don't want to assume, here ...

1. should not the whole project be covered with unit tests.

In my VCU firmware stm32-taxi I followed a rigorous testing approach (Zombie wasn't ready yet when I started).
You will be able to see the code for that within this year I think. Some of that may be helpful for ZombieVerter.

Without a range check that is considered valid at least on one channel.

I need to release my VCU code, as I have done this there, so people would get another example on how it can work.
I also check as many inputs as I can with 12V only before ever connecting a HV source.
