Re: Boat mode implementation

Thank you @Johu,

One question that comes to mind is, is there a parameter for deadband, when using potmode=bidir? If not how much play is it around the center value before either ”gear” is selected?

Boat mode implementation

Hi all you clever people.

Is there anyone that have implemented boat mode in their inverter?

I am running parallell tracks here, both trying to get the "ordinary car mode" working in my boat, and understanding how to implement boat mode, if needed.

In other threads/topics I have gathered some ...

Re: Motor stalling. I am guessing at no load.

Thanks for the quick and qualitative reply @Zieg.

Regarding reduction gear oiling. I have filled it to the supposed level for ordinary use. Are you suggesting to add more?

I would believe my syncofs is about right. I haven't had any issues with the motor starting in the wrong direction, as you ...

Re: Motor stalling. I am guessing at no load.

@Zieg, I noticed in another thread that you have your motor "mounted backwards". I have as well, for practical physical reasons. Have you made any settings specifically for running the motor backwards?

because the motor is running in reverse

Also, since I am running a slow boat, with a huge ...

Re: Setting max current over CAN [SOLVED]

Hi,
I need to upload the files for the new "green" web interface through WiFi on serial, using the web interface. I have a few questions on how to do this.
1. Do I upload all the files in the repository https://github.com/jsphuebner/esp32-web-interface/tree/uart-backend/data, or only some of them?
2 ...

Re: Setting max current over CAN [SOLVED]

Great!
So, having determined that my wifi-setup is on a serial dongle, I just upload the files found on https://github.com/jsphuebner/esp32-web ... ckend/data with the upload feature in the web interface, right?

Don't want to mess up and cut comm to the inverter.

Well, I have been running FW 5.35, monitoring and editing over WiFi. My idea was to use the upload via WiFi to update the WebUI. I am afraid I don't understand the options "CAN or serial attached".

Re: Setting max current over CAN [SOLVED]

Been looking around the open inverter site for the latest files to update the web UI, but I can't find them. I am expecting index.* files, but can't find any.
Can someone please help me pointing out where I find the files I need to upload with the upload interface in the the web UI?

Re: Setting max current over CAN [SOLVED]

Wait, you're successfully running a Gen3 OI board? I.e. in Leaf Gen3 inverter.

Apart from that, if you use the new "green" web interface you can map idcmax (accel) and idcmin (regen) just like any other item.

Sorry about my misleading information. Blaming fat fingers. I have a Gen 2 OI board ...

Setting max current over CAN [SOLVED]

Hi,

I can't find documentation anywhere of how to set max current (in the inverter) to a value received via CAN (i.e. from the BMS). Is this not possible?

I would like the BMS to be in charge of how much current the inverter/motor is allowed to pull. My idea was to have the max output current ...

Thank you @johu,

Then I don’t need to think more about how to fix that 😅

So the trick is to set potmin a little bit above the noise, right?

Noise on throttle pot_in

While testing some erratic behavior on sel-dir (selecting ”gear”/FNR), I noticed noise on pot_in.

Decided to pull pot1 to ground. Still got noise, see attached screenshot from plotting. Pot1 is showing anything between 55 and 65 even though the input is pulled to ground.

Is this expected, or is ...

Try combining it with potmode Bidir

Thanks for the tip!
Unfortunately we have already a Curtis ET-134 FNR Throttle kit installed. It gives F signal and throttle if pushed forward, and R signal together with throttle if pushed backwards.
It’s very convenient as it has a mechanical “click” at ...

We were at our boat today and tested a bit.
The thing that struck us most was that we couldn't get the motor to spin backwards in "boat mode". Possibly, and perfectly reasonable, this is because "boat mode" is based on the ...

Is the boat mode documented anywhere? The only mention I find is in the release notes for 5.20 on GitHub.

I'm currently away but I think it's activated by setting cruisemode to Pot. Then set speedflt=0 or maybe 1 and tweak speedkp until you have stable rotation. Would love to hear back from that
Super interesting! We will check this as well.

Re: Motor stalling. I am guessing at no load.

Thanks Uhi22,

I was thinking the same ways you are, regarding the differences between a car and a boat, at first. But then I was thinking about a sort of ideal case where a car is given a certain small amount of throttle on a long flat road. The car would accelerate to a certain point where all ...

Motor stalling. I am guessing at no load.

I have put a Leaf motor in my boat. It's an EM-57 with a gen 3 OI board.
The other day when we were out on a test run the motor suddenly stalled and I believe came to a complete stop. Boat still making some speed. After a little while it came on again. This repeated a few times until I made it back ...

Re: Strange throttle response [SOLVED]

It's a good question but a redundant question (because it was asked soooo many times). It is the normal throttle response of an unloaded motor because throttle controls torque, not speed. The first bit that doesn't react is the regen portion of the throttle (in newer versions it is different). It ...

Re: Strange throttle response [SOLVED]

Ah, thank you @johu!

Silly newbie misunderstanding.

The motor is actually already installed in the boat. I’ll install the adapter shaft between the redux case and my propeller shaft, reduce the max frequency for safety matters, and try again.

Strange throttle response [SOLVED]

Hi,

I am facing very strange throttle response.

Checking the throttle end values I get around 33 on the pot-value in "idle" and around 3980 on full throttle. Both values are fluctuating a bit, full throttle more than idle. I have set potmin and potmax to 20 and 3995 to get some margin.

When ...

I am almost sure I read somewhere that the OUT_ERR I/O signal pulls down 12V to ground, when an error occurs. Now I can't find that reference anywhere in the documentation.

I wanted to test the OUT_ERR functionality by simulating a pre-charge error.
