Nissan leaf POWER DISTROBUTION MODULE (PDM)

  • 6.6kw charger
  • 1.5 kw 12v dcdc converter
  • HVJB
  • DC FAST charging contactors

Mounts directly on top of the leaf motor inverter. Completing what is known as the "full stack"

  • 2013 to 2017 AZE0
  • 2018 to 2024 ZE1

there has been various changes over the years to the shape and weight of the pdms, as the early year units are quite big and heavy. Nissan has streamlined the pdms, making them more suitable for fitting under the hood in a ev conversion.

  • any version of a pdm will physically mount onto any year leaf inverter
new, smaller cover pdm

Charger

  • 2013 models where 3.3kw
  • 2013+ are 6.6kw
  • single phase
  • controlled via CAN
  • handles proximity and pilot signals

DCDC

  • max power output of 1.5kw
  • controlled via CAN

DC fast charger

the pdm has 2 HV contactors connected to the HV bus, used for controlling the chademo fast charging. These cannot be directly controlled without modifying the wiring connections inside the PDM. The contactors themselves are not economized.

Connectors on the DCFC contactor interface pcb (YEAP01A284Cb).

  • CN701 pin 1 -> CN711 pin 2
  • CN701 pin 2 -> CN712 pin 2
  • CN701 pin 3 -> pins 1 on both CN711 & CN712
Schematic diagram

So it looks like the Leaf can control the contactors individually as we have 2 feeds and one common. That means this is useable as is and the only wiring modification needs to be done at the other end of the pdm.

Here are the front and rear picture of the DCFC contactor interface pcb.[1]

Top view of the PDM PCB labelled YEAP01B976Aa. CN100 is where the PDM connector connects. CN5405 splits between other boards, but this is the connector where the DCFC contactor board connects to.
Bottom view of the PDM PCB labelled YEAP01B976Aa. F/S relay supplying +12V to PDM pin 9 is passed through to DCFC contactor board. This trace is shown in picture with yellow arrows.
