Re: MEB Chargers
I seen on github Damien has made progress with his code.
I am yet to try this on my own charger to see if the E-Golf charger works the same way as the GTE one Damien has wrote the program for.

Re: MEB Chargers
I believe Damien has progressed fairly well with the xxx915682xx series 3.6 kW chargers. The latest info is on his github and pinouts are listed on the Wiki here.

Re: MEB Chargers
So I have a dumb question that I haven't been able to find the answer too. Figured I would ask it on here in case anyone else had the same thoughts.
What's the point with some of these chargers being two phases? Surely that means most home chargers are going to be limited to the single phase 3.6kW charging, but taking it to a 22kW public charger to use the extra phase is still going to be a bit slow at 7.2kW.
On a further potentially stupid thought. With the two phase chargers, could you parallel the live phase to both phases of the charger? Since it's not three phase both phases should return via the neutral anyway.

Re: MEB Chargers
I have a Cayenne two phase 7.2kW charger. Part number 5QE 915 681 BQ.
Got it responding to 0x570 DLC8 0xFF 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 on PT CAN at 1 sec intervals. Same as the Seat Mii Damien has, which is probably unsurprising given the part numbers are very similar. I also then get some can data on the PT canbus, log attached. Although I get nothing on my Hybrid can.

Re: MEB Chargers
I'm just guessing, but I think it is because those chargers are build to provide also markets with a single phase 32A infrastructure.
You can recode the charger to use one phase with 32A or back to two phases with 16A.
Here is a video about that coding:

Re: MEB Chargers
Thanks! That look's rather simple to do. I would imagine in that case you would just need to ask for 32amps on the canbus and it will switch automatically. That's very handy!
Re: MEB Chargers
Just picked up a 5QE.915.684.AD charger from a 2021 Audi E-Tron Canadian Model.
Hoping to help out with the Reverse Engineering efforts, or at least prove them on North American variants.
Likely best to document everything here, but I think this thread will fragment into the few various different models, even if they're all 'MEB' type, the implementation seems to differ quite a bit between the MQB and MLBevo models.
The E-Tron chargers have several things which make them a bit different, one major being the LIN LED module and Door actuator, as well as only having a Hybrid CAN connection (No Drive CAN)
The CAN signals appear to be totally different than those for the rest of the charger line.
As per the DBC file I posted, The charger is pretty integrated into the other bus messages, but the messages seem totally different than those found by Damien
**See Next Post for CAN Signal List**
I find the VCDS forums a good source to start at, The VAG Address is C6 and the Module is J1050
https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/27373/
This post is interesting as the scan has quite a few Bus errors which re-confirm the some of the required CAN signals the module is looking for:

Re: MEB Chargers
I'd like to get one of these running too. So are you using savvycan for reading and arduino or something for sending messages? Is there no interface besides this setup?

Re: MEB Chargers
I've connected my Golf GTE charger up to ODIS (connected to the power train can) and it looks like theres some coding options.
Not sure what they mean as of yet, but maybe some of the checks can be coded away like on it's bigger brother.
EDIT Coded off the flap lock and socket lock. Lets see.

Re: MEB Chargers
Been messing around with my Cayenne charger for the last few months. Tonight I finally got some continuous charge out of it. Uploaded are the coding settings I used in PIWIS.
I think the main settings that did it was disabling power line communications and also enabling plug and charge.
Edit: On further testing these didn't make any difference.
Further edit: It seems what it really cares about is socket temperature, if that's open or too high it wont charge at all. It also doesn't like charging with a target voltage of below 380v or so. Apart from that I have many faults showing on PIWIS but it will charge anyway.
With this set I use Mitchys code that he used with the higher power chargers and could enable and disable charge, also lower or increase charging amps.
Further further edit: On reflection I think this is probably more useful in the MLBevo charger thread, as I think this Porsche charger is part of that family.

Re: MEB Chargers
EDIT: Got 684J 11kW charger. After testing I 'accidentally' noticed charger data is on the same CAN bus, no need for two busses on this one. Now that I read previous posts this is clear, mee soo stupid
Now I need to code things using ODIS, so there is hope on this.

Re: MEB Chargers
Hey, was this from Lars? I have the same and was a little concerned that they might be a different model as mine has a "streetscooter" sticker and part numbers have not turned up anything. The connectors match the Audi E-Tron OBC though with the same number although the casing is slightly different.

The chargers from Lars are most likely 5QE915684BJ, but nobody powered them up yet as far as I know.
Streetscooter is a company from Germany, building electric vehicles: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StreetScooter
Let's hope they don't have different software than the VAG ones.

Re: MEB Chargers
What are you using as interface to send can messages? I have a stm32nucleo board I'm thinking of using.
I presume sniffing CAN messages with savvycan gets us the info of the different messages required to get this charger working. Then we need to get a programme written up using these messages and parameters to control the charge process.
What info do we still need to get this operational?
I can see that BMS info regarding SOC and max voltage are necessary.

Re: MEB Chargers
3.6Kw 5QE 915 682 AF charger up and connected along with mating Charger Port - 5G0 971 509 F.
VCDS HEX+CAN is too old to read out data. I can Connect , read Fault Codes and Long Coding.
@Bigpie is using ODIS, along with others, do you have a suggestion of where to get my hands on this without paying the earth?
Basically, I am sending the 0X157 ID on PT CAN and seeing data flying by, but don't know what they all mean.
Are the Magic Bytes required whilst Fuzzing with SavvyCan? Basically, I'm trying to get the LED's to light up on the Charge Port as a first step.

Re: MEB Chargers
Thanks to a cocktail of @Mitchy, @Bigpie and @Uhi22, I have 2 CAN boards running. PeakCan listening, and SavvyCan 'Fuzzing'. I have a new VCDS Hex-V2 connected too, as the previous Hex+Can is too old.
I can send messages from VCDS for the locking flap. I can see the CAN ID's that are concerned by the action, but when I try to use SavvyCan to find the Bits to be set High and/or Low, I can't copy the message. Are the CRC Magic Bytes required when using the Fuzzing Mode in SavvyCan?

Re: MEB Chargers
The VCDS uses diagnostic communication (UDS on ISOTP), to eg run an actuator control or read some states. This is a different type of communication than the normal cyclic messages between the control units. Not sure whether Savvycan is fuzzing UDS.

Re: MEB Chargers
I get that VCDS is using ISOTP, but wouldn't it, or the charger be sending the identicle CAN message to unlock the actuator? Since I can actuate certain commands from VCDS, I assumed sniffing them with Savvycan, I could narrow down the ID and then the bytes and bits. Then move onto the next parameter that interests us. Is there another way?
I would like to be able to use as much of the parameters that are available in the charger menu I can extract with VCDS, and thought that it's the safe plan for getting these operational..

Re: MEB Chargers
What I meant was I have VCDS connected.
I have wifican module connected to Savvycan.
I also have a dualcan module connected to Peakcan. All modules connected to PowerTrain CAN.
I 'played' back the blinking command from VCDS, captured the raw CAN messages with Savvycan (Peakcan only used for verifying I have the same messages), but I cannot simulate the LED blinking when I playback a data capture in Savvycan..
I have done the same with the lock mechanism on the flap.
I understand VCDS protocol is different to a working system (UDS), however , are the raw CAN messages to switch for example an LED from the control unit different to those of a working system?
I understood that there are CAN logs that were played back to see if these chargers could work. That means the magic bytes were not needed when doing a 'replay'. Is this is correct, or have I got it all muddled up?

Re: MEB Chargers
Hey,
Not sure if replaying VCDS logs will activate any options,
I'm not too familiar on the protocol, but within the CAN messages there's likely some handshaking and authentication.
Some quick reading https://github.com/openvehicles/Open-Ve ... TP-2.0.txt seems to suggest some CAN IDs that are associated, so if you see those in your VCDS Logs then it would make sense.
Magic bytes are likely only used in the vehicle communications between modules, so they become important if trying to spoof signals to operate the charger as it would in the car.
Regarding the magic bytes; They are mostly used to have a constantly changing way to ensure some can messages are fully as intended (It's a CRC check)
Along with the Message Data, there is a rolling counter. together each of the 8 bytes of data use the magic byte value to calculate agaist
Some messages have just one magic byte, used for all of the counter values, while other messages have different magic bytes for each counter value.
I assume it was added to make the CRC checks more robust, as it's unlikely it's a security measure (or at least a poor one).
Depending on the charger version, we can try to replay particular IDs from logs, or use some Arduino programs to simulate to get it to charge.
There are some interlocks to clear (such as when the charger does actually output a voltage, then the BMS CAN message will need to mirror that voltage as the actual voltage, or else the charger will cut-out as the two voltages differ more than 5Vdc

Re: MEB Chargers
Thanks for the info. This is all helpfull. Attached is a screen print of CAN ID's when playing the Blinking LED's with VCDS.
To me, it looks like the raw data, and I assumed that playing this back would make the LED's blink....obviously it's not the case.
I might try to connect my other CAN Board, but don't see how that would help.
For info, I get ID - 05CC that seems to change whilst the blinking is running. If I get this working correctly, hopefully I can help move this charger along to a workable solution......

Re: MEB Chargers
I've been playing back a few can logs, also trying the different CAN Id's from the previous post of @mitchy. Charger just sits there looking at me. Looking at actual values with VCDS, nothing changes. Whilst I understand VCDS doesn't care about fault codes when carrying out 'diagnostic actionners ', should I not be able to do this via Savvycan? Or do I need the handshake messages before doing anything? For those who have these chargers 'working',are you basically playing back logs?

Re: MEB Chargers
I think there's only really LRBen that has one of these working, I know I never got mine to do very much.
