CATL 6s1p 180Ah Module - BMS Plugs Anyone?!

Post by elShankos »

Hi All,

So as part of my project, I finally got my 16 x CATL 6s1p 180Ah modules from China via Alibaba.com last week and they have this BMS connector here to pull out the celltaps and I think maybe temp sensors:

So here is my question: does ANYONE know what the plugs are for these modules? I have been hunting, asked the folks in China etc and no luck so far :

Also if anyone has used these and made cooling plates and or busbar arrangements it would be great to hear how they linked the modules together etc :D

My project is here for reference: viewtopic.php?p=52050#p52050

I’m using the same modules—mine are 24 units (1P4S configuration). As far as I know, they don’t require active cooling.
I've attached an image showing the connectors—try checking that.

Regarding the bus bars, my supplier included them with the modules. You could try reaching out to her; she might be able to help:

Hi, I managed to get a bunch of connectors but they don't come with pins - just the white tab that you can push down in the middle. Did yours come like this or were they pre-terminated with cable leads? If you had to terminate all the cables, do you have any tips on the length of the bare wire, wire size etc? I have hunted online and basically no info unless I'm just not looking properly! :)

I tried asking the supplier but I just got a bunch of kind of google translate messages back which didn't help or make much sense....

No, the connectors were not terminated. I received the connectors and pins together in one package, but they came unassembled as shown in the attached image. I used 22 AWG wire, with each cable measuring approximately 25–30 cm in length. Please note that terminating these connectors manually is quite time-consuming, so if possible, it’s better to purchase pre-terminated connectors. After crimping and testing all connections to ensure each wire was secure and free of short circuits, I extended the wires from each connector to the desired length.

Hi, I finally got all my pins etc from China and rigged up a sample plug with some cables - mine are the 16pin plugs. I tried contacting the supplier from Alibaba and also your supplier to get a pin out but no luck at all :)
So.. did you perhaps get a pin out or how did you figure out which pin is which? Maybe this is elementary but I'm just being cautious I guess... I suppose I could try and continuity test from each cell to each of the 16pins and then maybe connect my multimeter temp sensor function to some of the remaining pins to see if I can locate what must be thermistors in the modules...
Any suggestions welcomed! :D

I’m not sure whether these modules include temperature sensors; in any case, I didn’t use them.

To identify the BMS pin for each cell, you can try the following method:

Measure the total voltage of one module.

Divide that value by the number of cells to estimate the voltage of each cell.

Connect the negative probe of the multimeter to the module’s negative terminal.

Use the positive probe to test the BMS pins one by one until you identify the cell connections.

Note that the measured voltage will increase progressively from cell 1 to cell 6.
