Charger Options

Post by ekohn04 »

Hey everyone,

I haven't been able to find a thread documenting the current options for chargers. If there is such a thread (or wiki page) I apologize, please point me in that direction. However, I thought it might be useful to start a discussion about this. I am close to needing to purchase a charger. I'm using a 62kwh Leaf pack, and will be using the Leaf BMS. I'll be doing something similar to Isaac Kelly's first BMS solution, where he used an Arduino to read CAN bus from the BMS, then implemented high/low voltage cutoffs based on the temp and voltage info. Therefore, I'll need something I can control via CAN. (If anyone has a better solution for cutoffs w/ the leaf BMS please let me know).

Thunderstruck - seems like the best option if it didn't have a 3kw max charge rate
Tesla - 10kw is a nicer figure, but I don't see any control boards for these in the shop? How would I use this?

So here's the big question: What other chargers are compatible with my system?

Leaf charger? Though that will only get you to 6.6 kW.

Or I suppose you can always run multiple Thunderstruck chargers in parallel, they do support it.

Do you know if there's documentation relating to setting custom high/low limits on the leaf charger?
