How is the acceleration like with 3.6 throtcur once you get moving? I had it set at 3 I think and once the car is moving acceleration is pretty good I would say somewhat pulls to the seat on MG2 alone. But I've noticed it sometimes struggles from standstill if it has to climb a bump or some thicher snow. Wonder why that is and why the overcurrent in your case? Would be interesting if you could parallel Mg2&Mg1 and see if it makes a difference.

Re: VW - Beetle 2003
Not sure, but the torque per amp is going to be different with different motors I guess. I'm going to go throug the syncofs setup again to be sure but I think that's pretty good, slow speed is really smooth

That's good to know. I'll configure simp appropriately for my BMW modules. What are you charging them to?Ev8 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 21, 2021 5:43 pm What have you set your lower cell voltage limit to in simpbms? First time out I was showing 50% battery at 3.5v but the bmw modules seem to start falling of the cliff at 3.4v so be careful until you work out where your modules are actually happy being drawn down to!

So I've welded closed a Panasonic AEV14012 that came with my battery pack. They are only rated at 140amp so probably a little too weak. Need to source replacement beefier contactors.

I've found a cross platform open-source tool for making the adaptations on VW clusters. Its even extracted the pin from my cluster so i can pair new transponders, not that the immobiliser will stop my motor it gets annoyed if the ignition is on without detecting a transponder https://github.com/gmenounos/kw1281test

Re: VW - Beetle 2003
So I still seem to be blighted with the CAN BUS issues and not really sure what could be the cause or even if it's an issue.
Symptoms:
Charger isn't pulling down the CP reliably, it'll intermittently do so. for this 0x285 is required every 100ms. I have this broadcast from SimpBMS configured at 50ms
Other information:
I have the Prius OI board configured to transmit 0x3FF
I have a Rev 3 board for VCU running stm32-car transmitting 0x001 at 10ms intervals
The average inter-frame interval are quite a bit higher.

Re: VW - Beetle 2003
Took the car to an EV meet, with bobby_come_lately, we got a charge from an 800v EV6.
Fair to say the 2 conversions there got a fair bit of attention.

Forgot to mention, the DVLA wanted to inspect the car, after I tried to get them to update the V5 again.
They concluded I didn't need any further inspections as it's not radically altered, but they again refused to update the V5.

The bit they don't put in their letter is "Under our interpretation of the law".
They try to make it sound like the law is clear on this matter and fail to mention there are conflicting sections which make this utter nonsense.
Nice write up BTW.

Re: VW - Beetle 2003
2nd Battery pack is in and running now, ish. It's connected, but not got the BMS readings from it yet, and I want to tweak the mounting a bit, but I now should have 50 to 60 miles range
Boot floor doesn't quite sit flat, so I'll need to tweak something, either try and get the modules a little lower in the spare wheel well or put some 5mm ply down, which I can then fasten the metal cover to, once painted.VW Beetle 2003

Perhaps a little "gentle persuasion" on the wheel well floor?Bigpie wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 12:16 pm 2nd Battery pack is in and running now, ish. It's connected, but not got the BMS readings from it yet, and I want to tweak the mounting a bit, but I now should have 50 to 60 miles range

Getting there now with the rear pack. Couldn't quite squeeze the modules inline and still got to finish bolting down the front mount and the top and a few other little jobs.
So what next?
No idea where I'll be able to fit this monster, it's fairly large, also workout how air conditioning works. It's been a little uncomfortable in this heat.VW Beetle 2003

Did a longer trip today and got a charge on chademo
Mart.y hit me with a well timed PM offering a leaf motor so an upgrade is in order. Going to be a tight squeeze.
Did some motorway miles and while the car was mostly ok, it was obviously lacking in umph. Would cruise happily at 60 but maintaining 70 up hill wasn't so effortless.Mart.y hit me with a well timed PM offering a leaf motor so an upgrade is in order. Going to be a tight squeeze.
