Re: Insuring your DIY EV in the UK
can you go with cat1 alarm or insurance approved tracker? wouldn't save you enough this year but would pay for itself and not being trapped by a single insurer. (ask the question before spending obs). Stealing a 2004 freelander wtf... that's sounds like stealing the alloy wheels off my auris ... if ...

Re: [DRIVING] BMW Touring + prius + phev
Does look very promising any idea how much you car weighs in at?
Definitely a real useable range assuming fast charges every 50 miles or so, plus you can probably squeeze another 5% by pushing them to 4.1v/cell.
edit: DOH!! just saw why you charged to only 4.05v on the other thread very strange.

TBH given the costs of the units and that we are using them out of scope i would consider best guess would probably be fine as long as its massive different it not going to make a huge difference, plus your not using it in a sealed for life :) rember if you go to a garage to get your car serviced th...

I do understand what he said and you are doing the right thing ... There are so many variables involved that jumping in feet first really is the only option. Real world data always is better than analysis as there are always assumptions and simplifications.

I'm using my spaceballs board ..... https://oshwlab.com/EV-Team/spaceballs ...just because i have them to hand :) if your interested make sure you use the RevB as that's the most complete 4 layer board (the S3 version is WIP and based on using a XIAO ESP32S3 and is intended to be DIYable board with ...

Re: Lexus GS450H Li-ion PHEV (?)
I did some thinking and its probably easier to go full ev than its is to go PHEV. all you have to do to make a full ev is to spoof enough commands that the car thinks its idling so that you can use ac etc. Then just use zombie to power the gearbox. Although there allot of technical hacking and gener...

OK i'm an idiot!!! (Occam's razor) The simplest way is the right way !! This is basically a rehash of Blinkwithoutdelay (https://assiss.github.io/arduino-zhcn/cn/Tutorial/BlinkWithoutDelay.html) as we a not dealing with super fast frequencies just using the raw rower of the esp32 is enough to create...

Re: Lexus GS450H Li-ion PHEV (?)
An Interesting and potentially challenging project although i am quite tempted to do similar with an LS600H if they ever become cheap. By the way I mean none of this in a discouraging way, it is going to be difficult and you are going where no one has gone before but it could be achievable as long a...

Sadly the dealers spares department are the most unhelpful breed of person out there, it's not just isolated to Toyota they all seem to be just as unhelpful. There's a reason why we will try every other avenue first. Both me and my wife own Toyota's however we have stopped taking them back for the r...

Re: Throttle Cable Adapter Best Practices?
One very cheap cable driven throttle sensor is 9643365680. It's used on French cars. I don't know the pinout, but it seems to be a 4 pin sensor so not too difficult to test and find out using a current limited power supply. I would be very surprised if it didn't provide simple analog signals when s...

Re: Auris Gen 3 Inverter with 620V batterie (Zebra)
The prius (gen 3) inverters have a 750v caps (on the motor side), the auris/yaris inverters have 650v caps (i think the later gen4's have a 650v cap also but have only had apart a yaris & gen 3 prius inverter ) tbh we dont make much use of the HV dcdc in the prius unless your running the 12v dcd...

Everything always seems to take 10x longer than we think.. I would of just taken bulbs out for the mot
Anyone know what is required to work on the dash for an MOT? Do we need rev counter? Etc do we actual need an EML if we don't have a VCU?

it needs to be done in software as the hardware timers do not work at low frequencies...the problem i found i hadwas it went in steps for the esp32 using hardware timers...(which used in the clip)... i will update with some arduino code for a nano shortly... edit: I believe this is code that can be ...

Re: Inline wire HV disconnects that are IP67+
Maybe time to think outside the box? Why not fit the chargeport under the front numberplate (put plate on hinges) or mount the chargeport in the front grill (3d printed rubbery cap maybe) and there's even the option of just putting it under the bonnet and poping the Binet when you need fast charge. ...
