Re: Newb Asks: Why don't we rely on the component coolant for heat?
Liquid battery cooling & rapid charging I could see work: If you have 200kg+ of material that are 50deg after a rapid charge session or two, cooling them down again should produce nice warm air for the passengers? If you are not rapid charging but the batteries are full, use an electric element....

Speaking of Outlander chargers, I have one for sale too, PM if interested: "2014-2019 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER PHEV /HYBRID BATTERY CHARGER OBC ON BOARD CHARGER" £150 I opened it once, tested DC/DC converter in the unit (works), don't remember if tested the charger. We used Tesla chargers in t...

Single use vape devices have Lithium cells in them
Read this yesterday, and while the cells aren't big enough to be used in cars, they might be worth picking up for other DIY projects: https://www.atomic14.com/2022/07/16/free-lithium-cells.html https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32129478 I am not that much of an eco warrior, but it is unclear to m...

Re: Changing final drive ratios
We looked into having gears made, but that quickly became very expensive. You can replace the "crown" in a differential to make adjustments. The eNV200 might have a slightly different ratio. We don't use the differential in the Leaf gearbox, so I can post you one to take measurements off a...

Re: Fast charging journey to UK and Ireland
Might as well add some photos here. Including my trophy shot (god knows how I managed to get myself into a photo with both of them!). The journey back after delivering Johannes was pleasantly boring, once you know which chargers worked, there wasn't much planning to do on the back-leg. I skipped the...

Re: Tesla Charger Support Thread
... I think it means the stm32 is not reading back what it is sending so it backs off right away. Could be a bad transceiver or solder joint Just to wrap this up for someone reading this in the future with a similar problem: The logic board should always send CAN messages with the IDs: 42C, 43C. Th...

Re: RWD reduction box
We have punched a hole through the Leaf gearbox, so we are not using its differential and connect the middle cog to the taxi differential. This made us end up with about a fixed 8:1 reduction which has held very well for more than a thousand miles now. I am not very mechanical, they talked a bunch a...

Re: Tesla Charger Support Thread
Ok, on the logic board CAN_RX looks good, CAN_TX not so much. I am just reading up on this, but does that mean that the transceiver is toast, or the stm32 not sending properly? It looks to me like periodic attempts at sending the message and failing after 1 bit, but is there an ACK needed from the t...

... Hi, definitely make sure its 60Ohm. Interestingly I have the same problem with a logic board at the moment, I am just today measuring on the CAN TX side of the can transceiver on the board if it gets the signal there 1) if it gets the signal and it doesn't generate CANH & CANL --> transceiv...

Re: Olimex MOD-WIFI-ESP8266 alternatives

Yeah, I made that mistake on the first charger too. I actually printed out the wiki page back then and this paragraph got lost on a page break. I added a common issues section to that wiki page a few weeks ago at the bottom, so it is written twice on that page but I have a feeling more people will s...

Hi,
our vehicles are IVA'd and passed without too much hassle, we haven't cut the chassis. DVLA tax class change is much more of a headache for us.

Re: 2019 main harness connector pin diagram
Hi,
I don't know the pinout, it might be worth checking the maintenance manual if you haven't done already.
On another note, we don't use the big main connector, so if you want some I can cut them off and post to you.

Re: First GEN TESLA S DC-DC charger hacking ??
Fire! We used this DCDC for 1500+ miles without CAN control. Thursday it set itself ablaze. I wonder what went wrong? Maybe we overloaded it on 12V side, but no heater was on, maybe PS pump (60A fuse). Will fuse the 13.5V+ output just in case for the next one. Cooling issue possible, but it is mount...

Re: We built a manual P-Brake actuator for the Leaf gearbox
Hm... but you would need to have a disable switch on one end so you dont pull out into the P brake full power. Just a simple antimoron switch... We discussed this internally before: To be a moron and engage the break while driving you would have to go from Drive to Neutral to Reverse(!) to Park whe...

Re: We built a manual P-Brake actuator for the Leaf gearbox
Yes, thats it. I am not very involved with the mechanical side, it's about a quarter turn.
The eNV200 has a mechanical actuator, because they kept a mechanical shifter.
Same for our taxis, we keep the shifter and it only goes back and forth.

Re: Tesla Charger Support Thread
Stupid question:
Gen2: A3/D1 enable is 12V or 5V?
I connected +12V but saw references to +5V and +12V here and am now questioning myself. Others have also connected 12V, but is that wrong?
I can update the wiki.
