Re: Registering and changing tax class of an EV conversion in the UK

I am assuming that you mean yes DVLA said you could keep your reg, and didnt have to do an IVA however as its a post 2001 car it still says diesel or petrol on v5 Correct, no need for IVA thankfully, and if you check the MOT status for the car it still shows diesel until you go into the MOT history...

Re: [Driving] Freelander EV With Gen1 Leaf electrics and EVBMW VCU

So you are manually balancing the cells when needed..? Maybe move the upper and lower limits a bit tighter to allow for more drift in the individual cell voltages? With slight loss of range, but more peace of mind? Yes mate, as far as I know the Leaf BMS balances with only 10mA so virtually nothing...

Re: [Driving] Freelander EV With Gen1 Leaf electrics and EVBMW VCU

So good and bad news for the BMS. The good news is it's working. I can see every cell and have been able to manually drain a few that were too high. They were maybe 40 or 50mV higher than average so not disastrous but bad enough to potentially do harm if the pack were fully charged as they could hav...

Re: Registering and changing tax class of an EV conversion in the UK

Just wondering if you passed the DVLA assessment? I’m just starting to nose around at people’s posts about DVLA inspections to see what I need to consider. I get the whole, no drilling, cutting thing. Be good to see a positive result. Apologies, my bad, I should have reported back. Yes it passed an...

Re: [Driving] Freelander EV With Gen1 Leaf electrics and EVBMW VCU

You could move the "negative" contactor between 48 and 49 and move positive and precharge to the end of the pack. Don't break between 41 and 42, by Murphys law this can and will go wrong That's a great idea thanks. I already have two contactors in the rear battery box breaking the neg and...

Re: [Driving] Freelander EV With Gen1 Leaf electrics and EVBMW VCU

The last few days I've been struggling to get my head around the BMS again. Although it probably won't be able be able to keep the pack balanced it's a good idea to have it working as I can use a simple Bluetooth dongle and App called LeafSpy to monitor the voltages of each cell. Having the BMS work...

Re: Nissan Leaf E+ 62kwh conversion

Thank you, I'm hoping that something will be developed, however I'm also considering utilising the OEM VCM, BMS, PDM, etc, but from experience that's an huge amount of bulky wiring and other peripheral components. I've seen this done by a couple of people but like you say it means trying to find sp...

Re: 1984 Voltswagen Rabbit Prius Gen 3 ZOMBIE

I think it is just part of the ignition switch that disconnects everything except the starter and whatever other part of the ECU etc required for the car to start. I already had the VCU and other parts of the LV junction box connected to Ign pos 1 and 2 when I realised.

Re: Mitsubishi outlander charger and DC:DC

Hi guys Now I have the LV junction box tidied up I've moved onto something I should have sorted months ago and that is automating the end of charging. I'm still setting a timer every time I start charging to remind me to unplug. To that end I've been playing with an Arduino Due with a modified versi...

Re: [Driving] Freelander EV With Gen1 Leaf electrics and EVBMW VCU

Thanks, I've now done almost 500 miles since it pigged on me (technical term) and it's been driving great. For people to say EV's can't tow is just stupid, to say they can't tow very far is a bit less stupid, especially if the load is bulky and/or heavy, also if you need to recharge with a trailer a...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

So for some reason with this new version the startup sequence of the car has become unreliable. Maybe 30% or 40% when I turn on the ignition I get positive contactor enabled but the throttle does not work. It may be something in my startup sequence but as it took me weeks to figure out a reliable st...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

That's what I would expect. The ISA shunt data is sent to Serial2 which is the wifi interface. To view it on the terminal you to need to change Serial2 to Serial, or you could copy the code so it sends to both. Thanks mate, I'll give that a try tomorrow and report back. I was hoping there would be ...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

So I tried this code exactly as you sent it and although it enables the serial outputs from the Inverter and lets me drive I don't see anything from the shunt. I only get Motor temp, Inverter temp and rpm on the display. This is what I see in the serial monitor Untitled.png Could it be a library ver...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

I have tested with your exact code with the } fixed and it all works. I am only sending messages to Can0 and don't have wifi so all readings are going to Serial ( I am using Arduino Due so just looking with serial monitor in IDE ). I thought it might be a timing problem as CheckCAN is polled in loo...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

Sorry mate, I've been messing about trying different things but I still only get Inverter CAN with this code. The ISA Shunt is not giving any output unless I put the sensor.begin line back in. Would it help If I got some CAN logs? If so is there a sequence you would suggest? CAN0 and CAN1? Sorry to ...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

It didn't work. :( I don't get anything from the ISA Shunt if I comment out the sensor.begin line and if I put it back in I get nothing on the display from the inverter. The thing that confuses me is that with the sensor.begin line on place the VCU is still controlling the inverter and allowing me t...

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

So after a lot of messing about I'm no further on.
With the line below in place I get voltage, current and power from the ISA shunt but the Inverter CAN is blocked.
Sensor.begin(port,datarate);

If I try setting filters to 'false' it either stops everything or makes no difference. :(

Re: Leaf Gen 1 Inverter Board

Thank you for this, I'm pretty sure at some stage I tried using Can0 instead but couldn't figure out the correct syntax.
It is no longer giving an error so I'll pop down to the car and see what it does for my display.
