Re: run a large drive on the bench with charger

No not possible. You would need a battery or a power supply. The Tesla chargers will not run unless they see a battery voltage present.

Tesla Small Drive Unit Support Thread

UPDATE : Sales of built and tested Tesla boards is now handled by Johannes. I am doing this in order to concentrate on new developments (model 3 etc) and focus on Toyota/Lexus in order to enable lower cost conversions. The opportunity is now there for someone to fill this gap. I would hope that if s...

Re: Tesla Model 3

Tom, the 177th pin is the big ground/cooling pad in the middle. They are using hall current sensors not sigma delta so that makes life a little easier. Good news is I have just enough info to make a stab at the design and it's more of a challenge reverse engineering something without it being in fro...

Re: Tesla Model 3

I'll leave the motor magic to Johannes. What I do know from experience however is that Tesla tends to do things the easy way. I recall being told how utterly impossible it would be to get the Gen 2 charger to run  Should only need a 4 layer board with a little trick from season 1 of Halt an...

Re: Tesla Model 3

Thanks Johannes :) Tom wins the prize:) Won't be quite as straightforward but Elon made the approach possible on the 3 as they no longer use a separate FPGA for reading the sigma delta current sensors and hardware shutdowns. The TI C2000 device also has the very same pitch as the STM32F103 just in a...

Re: Tesla Model 3

I was never any good at keeping a secret. Probably why I like opensource so much :) To date I have refused two offers of Model 3 drive units as the parties involved wanted me to keep everything under wraps with no sunset clause. I have no problem doing non open work but something like the M3 needs t...

Re: Lexus Inverter Hacking

You would need the gearbox with the aux oil pump (beware many ebay sellers remove this as it is a common failure part on the gs450h), inverter, hv cables and if possible the lv harness as of course all the connector plugs are custom. Started in on the GS450h inverter today. Our friends in Toyota are...

Released a development board design for the Lexus IS300H inverter :

Uses the Hübner brain board and a jumper to select between running the MG1 or MG2 inverter.

Lexus Inverter Hacking

Next up on the bench for hacking is the Lexus IS300h inverter. I believe this one is also fitted to the new model GS450h and LS hybrids also. Have another few Lexus inverters on the way including a few 2009 GS450h units that are available quite cheaply. Should work out nice for people who need more ...
