No BMS has a method for limiting current. It can only cut off the current using the contactors.

A BMS monitors and gathers data then decides on limits and share this with the vehicle. (Balancing is the only thing it can do on its own of it does not have contactors)

Isn't max temp = 85C? Yes so if you park when the inverter is at 50C things wont get hotter. The heat will start to dissipate into the housing. Yes your potnom clearly was not reaching full.

Check you cooling loop and ensure its vac filled. The inverter on the SDU is known for having issues with trapping air.
