Dublin Maker 2025 including OpenInverter stand!

So, the Open Call is out: https://dublinmaker.ie/open-call/

I had exhibited the bike before and the Leopardstown racecourse should give us even more space than Merrion Square to exhibit actual cars.

First of all, it's a great event to attend and bring the family! It's also great for networking with fellow tinkerers.

I'm going to apply and display again and have verbal confirmation that we could exhibit multiple cars as well - even just bring yours for one day if that suits people better.

I've considered a two-pronged approach with the hardware on display besides "slides and guides" presentations that you could contribute even if you're not there physically. Present what you did and/or what you would advise someone getting started now.

Update: application is in, 99% sure we'll be admitted.

Who's in? Confirmed so far:
  • Fiachra (Audi 8E)
  • Badri (Hyabusa)
  • chrskly (Mustang)
  • turnip73 (Prius MITM)
@johu can we use the logo for our stand?

Good news, we have been accepted!
I'd love for more people to attend in person, even if they just come with pictures of their project and/or some parts the public can touch.

In addition, I'd consider slides to run on a screen as well if you want to contribute.

We're officially public now: https://dublinmaker.ie/makers/openinverter-org/

@Alibro, could you contribute slides then? That goes for anyone else, too, of course. I'd love to be able to respond to people walking up with a project similar to their car/dream. Even if that happens to be a Freelander :)

A huge thank you to yourself Marc and all the guys in Dublin TOG for an amazing day out.
Apologies for the late arrival and having to leave early. The Chademo charger in Castlebellingham South was the culprit for the lateness and my daughter Rachel (Who had surprised me by offering to accompany me only two days ago) had promised to take me out for dinner so we were enroute to the Snailbox restaurant. I did like the idea of the Pizza though so was very much torn.
Apart from several struggles with Chademo chargers not working and being unable to get ac charging at TOG the day was a total success and we got home shortly after midnight. I'll put up a post later with more details in my build project thread.
Thanks again

Ali

Would it be worthwhile getting a few sheets of OI stickers printed to hand out? Everyone loves a sticker :) I'm happy to do it

Ooh, that's nice, If I have time I'll try to do something similar.

I ordered some stickers to hand out. Two different types. A round one and a rectangular one (with QR code).

Looking forward to seeing some of you there!

Wow, what a great weekend it was. Lots and lots of interest in OI across both days. Very, very busy. We spoke with a lot of people!

Huge, huge, huge thanks to @marcexec for getting this all organised, arranging transport, and generally herding all of us cats!

I'll post a few pics I took along the way.

Mustang loading up on the trailer early on Saturday morning.

Arriving at the venue.

Rolling in @cookie6000's Audi.

It was hard to get a good picture of the crowd. The stand was really, really busy for pretty much the whole two days. Much busier than in these pics even.

Just realising that I never took a good pic of Badri's Hayabusa. Hopefully someone else did :)

Looking good, some early shots from the setup.

We even saw the Audi temporarily DCU-powered when we wrapped things up :D :

(they had their solar car next to us)

The team, many thanks for donating your time and putting your stuff at risk - we had to chase kids off the Mustang as they were about to climb on the roof!
The other guys did most of the technical talking I assume because I was kept busy with kids climbing on the RF for their picture to be taken and the bigger ones "revving" her. Reverse is speed and power limited, a freewheeling wheel at 160km/h+ when some of the jokers pressed random buttons certainly wakes you up. I'd say about 250 kids between the two days. Some very smart ones, one ~10/11yo even asked about chemistry, efficiency, volts and amps. The mum was keen to support him so he should get the Pi Hut's Raspi micro advent calendar this Christmas based on my recommendation!

We were swamped especially on Sunday and hours fly past. Even without anything else on display we could have used volunteers just to have the conversations. Lessons learned from that:
  • "Any guess what we're doing here? - That's right we make all of these fully electric!"
  • "What about yourself, any special car or bike in the family?" - not always the guy in the group!
All in all an awesome event and we definitely got some new members for OI! @johu, did you see an influx?

Sorry I couldn't attend as I was too busy lying in the Creten sunshine.
Maybe next year. 😊

One other little observation ... We printed out stickers with just the logo and stickers with a QR code to the website. We also had the QRcode on the posters. Loads of people scanned the QRcode (even people who didn't otherwise engage) and I handed out loads of the QRCode stickers. If/when we do this again QRcodes are a must. I think getting business cards with the URL and QRCode would be better next time around rather than the stickers. Handing someone a token that they can take away works well. And there were cases where it was someone they know rather than they themselves that were interested - giving them a little token to pass to that person feels like it would work better.
