Behaviour of Outlander OBC with Zombieverter v2.20a

Post by AdrianB »

Firstly thanks to everyone who worked on getting this charger working with Zombieverter. Fantastic achievement it worked first time for me.

However in certain circumstances the charger seems to hang and won't come back on again until I power cycle it. I'm hoping people here can let me know what I'm doing wrong.

When I plug in my ESVE, with zombie on and ignition off, zombie goes into charge mode, contactors close, ESVE delivers power and batteries charge as expected. I can stop charging by removing the ESVE charge plug and plug it back in to resume charging. That's all working perfectly.

However if I stop charging, turn the ignition on, go into run mode, turn the ignition off then insert the ESVE charge plug again it doesn't charge. The contactors close and zombie goes into charge mode but the ESVE doesn't deliver any power. I can get it working again by disconnecting +12v from the charger (PIN 8 on the charger's 13 pin connector), waiting a couple of seconds and then reconnecting it.

I've currently got PIN 8 connected to a permanent +12v source. Using an ignition switched source overcomes the problem but means the car has to be left with the ignition on while charging - (steal me mode).

I've tried it with and without the two resistors on the PP wire but they made no difference.

Suggestions greatly appreciated - thanks.

OBC and DCDC are sensitive to permanent connection to HV and aux power. They have a cycle apparently and when it goes out they require power reset.

I have mine powered on with the negative contactor, then you can either use PP detect or something like LIM/Foccci to wake up for charge.

This is a VCU switchend ignition as indicated by the name IGCT for pin 8 signal. The issue is you need to go into charge mode using the Proximity signal now instead of the Outlander Charger Control Pilot sensing. There is a quirk you need to select Chademo charge interface for it to work.

Before it was not possible to keep using the outlander charger without needing to cycle it standalone.

Thanks. I’d have never worked that out - not sure I quite understand but I’ll have a poke about and see if I can work it out. I certainly haven’t got Chademo selected.
