Hi, first post.
I run a boatyard in the UK and am interested in experimenting with using a Nissan leaf drive train and battery for canal boats. My initial thoughts were to use a resolve.ev vacuum as I’m attracted to the “put of the box” nature of this device, however, I would very much like to be able to charge the battery from solar while the motor is being operated. We would have around 5kw of solar with a separate battery system and a 240v inverter and a back up generator. I have emailed Dalia from resolve.ev to find out if this would be possible, but I doubt it would. Would Damien Macguire’s zombieverter allow me to do this?
I assume that the charger knows not to operate under normal use from CAN signals, am I correct.
There is no situation where I would need DC charging as this is not available anywhere on the canal system.
Any advice much appreciated
Paddy

You would need to split the CAN bus between the Motor Inverter and the Charger. Then you need to write code to allow this to function, the current code only allows them all to be on one bus. You need to split the CAN bus to not have the PDM force the Motor Inverter into charging mode.
Currently the full leaf drivetrain with battery is being tested by Damien.

Welcome Paddy
Of course this begs the question do you really have to go through a solar inverter and OBC to charge from solar? You'll loose like 10-15% in heat.
Not that I have experience with this but that came up searching for "mpp charge controller 400v" https://www.tanfonsolar.com/solar-charg ... oller.html

Re: Operate battery charger while motor is running
What would adding in a second charger look like system / safety wise? The one spot I see is potentially a lack of battery management system communication.
There's also a battery voltage sag while in use that would likely throw off the charger. Might work out by limiting the second charger to 80% battery capacity.
What's the system voltage of the 240v inverter running at on the DC / solar side?
