Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
The dc to dc circuit I was using as an economiser was using was a little erratic it turns out the onboard pot was overly sensative causing the hold voltage to fluctuate so have swapped to a more robust circuit which has solved the issue and the bms was doing some strange things, the number of modules/cells was not always reading correctly for some reason if the contactors are enabled before the bms detects the modules/cells it doesn't detect them all, but if I just give it a second(literally) between power on and start it's fine not sure why

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
So just a little update I've mostly been tidying up the wiring and plumbing and making some minor tweeks but mostly been taking the car on progressively longer trips out checking everythings tight, no rubbing or pulling cables and generally trying not to leave tyre marks on the road which is really hard with the available torque and gearing basically getting it ready for it's mot which is due in 3 weeks I've also managed a stable spped test and it does 40mph at 6000 rpm so at max revs 80mph i really need a lower ratio diff

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
actually that's wrong I had 12000 rpm in my head for some reason at 14000 max mg2 rpm that would be 93 this obviously assumes the mg2 max speed is achievable and this is just an assumption only testing will tell and I will get to that at some pointJacobsmess wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 5:49 pm What are you calling max revs and what is dictating that?

Well done on your progress, is the only other driving if a L210 other than the Bmwagon test that I know of.
Have just rcvd a gs300h or crown inverter from Japan, and to replace the Prius zvw30 inverter driving the L210 transmission.. Have 3.75 diff ratio, which i feel will be a speed limitation.. So keen to follow your progress.
Did you have a path to the code you are using please, to make the tyres Mark's on the road..

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
I've done about 20 miles in the car today without any issues inverter temp is about 20 deg C but spikes quite rapidly during acceleration but hasn't peaked over about 33 yet and motor has reached a massive 35 deg C and I've been driving quite hard within the local speed limits (max 50)

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
Can't wait to see if it will happily cruise at 70-80ish, would be interesting to see current draw and if the temp stays stable at that speed.

Nice progress............. Do you have a current measure at stable 50,? and is that mph or kph ?

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
I saw very similar behaviour last night but I suspect it is because I made some changes to the PWM that controls the coolant pump. I intend to turn up the duty cycle to get a bit more flow.andybpowell wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2024 12:11 pm I've done about 20 miles in the car today without any issues inverter temp is about 20 deg C but spikes quite rapidly during acceleration but hasn't peaked over about 33 yet and motor has reached a massive 35 deg C and I've been driving quite hard within the local speed limits (max 50)
Is it possible your inverter is not getting cooled enough?
I need a bigger hammer!

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
coolant temp is low and flow is more than adequate with twin pumps I don't think the spikes are excessive or anything to worry about it was just an observation really

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
Considering the roads and traffic around here I actually managed to get some reasonably stable constant speed runs done this morning on some level roads

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
Nice result there
Thanks for that, looks a vast improvement on the Prius Gen 3 inverter attempt, motor matching issues maybe.
Have initiated BMWagon swap to crown inverter, of matching part number, so hope to fly it soon.

Re: [DRIVING] BMW Z3
any chance you have the partnumber of the wire loom?andybpowell wrote: ↑Tue Sep 19, 2023 2:19 pm Most of my new parts arrived today, lexus 300h inverter
and the wiring loom
I was looking for a used loom, but without the proper partnumber it's almost impossible to find one...

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
I managed to hit the high voltage limit on the outlander dc-dc yesterday. after charging my battery up I went to take it for a drive and noticed the aux batt volts was dropping took me a while to catch on the battery was only at 393v I thought it was supposed to stop at nearer 397v ? though when I plugged the charging cable back in it came on so it appears to ignore this during charging, I suppose worse case if I want those extra few volts I could send can signals to charge at 0 Amps when ign is on and not charging when above a certain voltage

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
My dc to dc works fine up to 400V. I don't usually charge that high as I still haven't sorted the BMS but the charger was fine with it.
I need a bigger hammer!

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
Mine turns off at 400V and turns back on at 393V. So short acceleration bursts are sufficient to start it back up but likely short regen bursts turn it off again.

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
So does anyone know of a reason that I can't or should not send the charger the messages to charge at 0 Amps when batt volts are above 393v and the ignition is on and not charging to overcome this ?

I am terrible at reading charts. What are the axis values here? When you say speed are you referring to motor rpm or vehicle mph?
