So this idea popped up on the i3 ccs hacking thread.
-Small pocket sized device say with an stm32f1 , can transciever, two leds and a small 9v battery.
-Two leads to connect to a can bus.
-no need for a pc/laptop/savvycan/ learning curve.
I'm thinking we get a bunch made from jlc and just give them to people with a small (1gig) sd card.
What say you openinverter? I'll do the hardware if someone wants to code it......

Re: Pocket CAN Logger
Wouldn't you still need to learn savvycan etc to analyse the logged output? Is the idea to help get can captures from none developers?

Re: Pocket CAN Logger
Yeah my thoughts are to be able to give it to someone who doesn't want or need to use savvycan etc. The tindie one looks interesting.
I'm going to need a hacksaw

Re: Pocket CAN Logger
Would something plugged into the OBD2 port work? I've only really started scratching the surface of CAN Bus myself.
I presume the aim is for something that can be posted and used by anyone to capture data of cars with components we'd love to learn about as per the i3, so the OBD port would be nice and simple to just ask them to pop it in there, forget about it for a week, then return it.
Are the certain components on a different bus though?

I assume something like this , I have one and with a few tweaks it would be perfect for this.

Re: Pocket CAN Logger
No, obd ports on modern cars only access the a can gateway. Probably thanks to all the hoopla in the media about "car hacking".
