Re: Junkyard Report: 2009 Toyota Highlander AWD
let's see if we can make the beefier Camry MG2 motor cable work as well
decided to skin it as well to make sure we get the Three Phases of the Moon aka U, V, W correct
nearly impossible to tell but these do have identifiable colored stripes, and notice how they aint orange

Re: Junkyard Report: 2009 Toyota Highlander AWD
Hello Greg,
I follow your work with great interest!
Could you provide us with more dimensions (external dimensions) for the motor?
And another question: Do you have any expectations regarding the top speed for a given wheel diameter and battery voltage? Or are you just waiting to see how things turn out? Other pioneers were ultimately dissatisfied with the MGR and then converted to Outlander.

Re: Junkyard Report: 2009 Toyota Highlander AWD
and I also identified and labeled the three AC phases on the Highlander MGR (Motor Generator Rear)
hard to tell: U V W so the same as the Camry transmission end, assuming the plug is flipped the right way

Re: Junkyard Report: 2009 Toyota Highlander AWD
and now for the fun part, now WE have to transfer the crimped on connector off of the orange Highlander MGR cable and affix it to the white Camry one, and do that 3 times

Wait what, Tom91 has thanked me for a post, Today Is Gonna Be A Good Day!
just wanted to show where the Toyota Highlander lands on the TOYOTA's Hybrid Synergy Drive System timeline, and why it's inverter overlaps and borrows from the Gen 2 Prius design, look and feel, I hope to dedicate an episode to it in my DIY EV Will It Spin 1 TOYOTA's Hybrid Synergy Drive System YouTube video series

Re: Junkyard Report: 2009 Toyota Highlander AWD
These are a few measurements that interested me.
I got them from TOMS STL file.
Unfortunately, I couldn't measure them directly in GrabCAD.
The measurements are slightly rounded up to full centimetres.
I do not guarantee their accuracy
Anyone interested can check this for themselves.

Re: Junkyard Report: 2009 Toyota Highlander AWD
so let's take a look at it's original wing span sort of speak, I did not weigh the spindle/brake ends but let me tell you they are heavy
first, we are standing right behind the vehicle here, the cables running forward are for the stock emergency brake

and here we are standing in front of the vehicle looking back at the rear motor
and I don't mean to get all scientific on you, but I'm almost 6 feet tall and I have a really big wing span myeslf, and when I stretched my long arms from end to end of this monstrosity it was just shy of my wingspan

alright, talk is cheap, let's parlay this into a real build
let's see how well you know your cars, can you tell what year Ford Escort is this?

Re: Junkyard Report: 2009 Toyota Highlander AWD
I also weighed the Highlander rear spindle/caliper/suspension sticks
so here are the totals
60 pounds for the rear subframe
90 pounds for the motor
70 pounds for the driver side spindle
70 pounds for the passenger side spindle
===================================
290 pounds (132 kilos) TOTAL
69 pounds (times two mind you as this is per side)
31 kilograms
