I'm working on a project to convert my Pontiac Fiero into a AWD hybrid, using a Mitsubishi Outlander rear drive in front-wheel drive and my 13b combustion engine in the rear, using an HSG to start and charge the battery.
Can an HSG like the ones used in a BMW I8 or Hyundai be controlled with a Volt inverter, and have that inverter also be the Outlander rear drive? The other option I had in mind is the Prius Gen3 inverter.
AWD hybrid project
Re: AWD hybrid project
One inverter can’t reliably run both. Best to keep the Outlander rear drive on its OEM inverter with a CAN VCU, and use a Prius Gen3 inverter for the HSG—simpler and proven. What pack voltage are you targeting?

A prius inverter would be able to control both but performance may be lacking.

@Joowerss do you have any links to demonstrations of the Prius Gen3 inverter controlling the HSG? That sounds quite interesting and I'd like to try it out.

Re: AWD hybrid project
I think they meant the inverter itself is proven. I've not seen any combinations of the HSG and prius inverter myself.
