ZombieVerter Shifting Gears Request Guidance

Post by maiks »

I have a manual gearbox directly coupled to a Nissan Leaf EM57 motor (without a clutch), and I’m using a ZombieVerter as the VCU. I followed Damien’s recommendation in this video ( check from 15:50), but my system isn’t working as expected.

When the car is completely stopped, shifting works smoothly. However, while driving, it becomes very difficult to shift gears—it's as though the gearbox is fighting me.

Could this issue be due to regen being enabled, or is it something else? I’d appreciate any insights.

Any news?

I' turned off the 'regn' and am still testing , but here's what I've discovered so far:

Upshifting:
Yes, you can upshift as long as you're at the correct speed. For example, shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear should be done at around 35 to 45 km/h. If you're too slow, the gearbox will resist. At about 70 to 80 km/h, you can upshift to 4th gear. I've also noticed that gears 5 and 6 don't offer much of a performance improvement—they seem almost unnecessary.

Downshifting:
I'm still testing this out and will update you soon."

My setup is an Outlander Motor direct drive into the original PG1 gearbox. In my first setup I kept the gearstick and experimented with gear shifting, with no regen. I found that upshifting was possible, but you had to wait for the motor to spool down a little before it would engage.

Downshifting was next to impossible for me. The issue I had was that when trying to increase the motor speed to match a lower gear it would often run away as it was unloaded. I've ended up putting it in 2nd gear and removing the gear linkages. 2nd gear is very close to the Outlander differential ratio so it works well.
