Tesla Gen2 Charger 30-pin Connector Pin Missing?

Post by nubster »

I purchased a Gen2 Charger board and ordered all the connectors mentioned in the wiki. However, the 30-pin SAMTEC IPS1-115-01-S-D-PL is missing a pin in the corner. According to this thread on DIY Electric Car forum, the connector part number should be IPS1-115-01-L-D, which has all 30-pins. Is this a non-issue? If so, which way around should I solder the connector with the missing pin?

Is this the correct orientation?

Or should I get the connector with all 30 pins?

Can confirm, mine is the same way. I found a mention of it somewhere on the forum, as I recall the connector got changed due to availability issues, and yeah that pin isn't used. You can also see it's not connected on the schematic.

Thank you! Somehow, I missed that in the pic!

Thank you for confirming!

Maybe we're looking at different schematics (or I'm reading it incorrectly), but the V5aB3 one seems to indicate it's connected to the net IN4, which shorts pins 29 and 30 together.

Ah, sorry about that, I was actually looking at the pcb PDF. Did not see the small trace on my phone, or on the bare pcb I have on the shelf behind me. But in any case, yeah, it's fine as is.

Edit: Ah, and here's the post from the man himself: viewtopic.php?p=27697&hilit=charger+pin+missing#p27697

Right on, thank you. If only I had searched using the same terminology I used in the title of my post! :) Once again, proving life is all about finding the right questions to ask.
