LDU performance which one.

Post by Clanky »

Please don’t shoot me down too much, but I probably deserve it.
Are the LDU are all the same hardware after 2017 just differing with the Tesla software?
Before 2017 I would need to have a performance LDU to get the maximum power from it?
Do you get better power from the pre 17 performance or post 17 LDUs or are they fundamentally the same?
Many thanks to all.

the part number for the sport version doesn't change, only the revision letter so I suspect it could be the same thing from day one. That doesn't tally with what is for sale though, they are always listed for a year bracket e.g. 2012-2017 and you can find crossovers between sellers year brackets so all years are covered by the one part number. 2018 has the same pn as 2012 as far as I can tell. The earlier ones are a lot more likely to be problematic though, worth spending a bit more for a later one.

It is likely that there are differences in firmware that define the year vehicles that will accept them as a repair replacement but that is less of a problem when you replace the logic board

As far as differences between sport and base, unless there is a measurable difference in weight between them I'd suspect the motors are all the same. It is more likely that a higher spec switching transistor and some code is all that separates sport and base
