[WIP] Xtreme Green UTV

Post by shifty »

I could use some advice from the experts here. I bought an Xtreme Green UTV from 2014. It's batteries were toast, so I replaced them. It is still not functional, and the screen readout is somewhat nonsensical. I'm trying to find where the malfunction is, and the only thing that jumped out at me after tracing wires were the voltage readings on the second main solenoid. When active, the solenoid properly has no resistance between poles, but it has 72v across said poles, which I am pretty sure isn't a good thing. I traced the issue to the ECU/ motor control unit, where the input + and input - are not an open circuit, even with the main leads disconnected.

Tracing the wires, the basic high amperage high voltage feed goes as follows:
72v+ --> big red disconnect button --> solenoid 1 --> Motor ECU/Control Unit
72v- --> solenoid 2 --> Motor ECU/ Control Unit

I don't really have any experience with EV systems like this. I am assuming that the board in the Motor ECU should not be allowing continuity back to the second solenoid, and this may indicate an issue with the board in the Motor ECU? TYIA for any insight!

Update - Just going to tear everything out and use this as a rolling chassis to build a new ATV. Bit more of a project than I was expecting, but hey, it'll be fun.

Some contactors have 72V coils weirdly enough.
I also think that your cells need compression before putting any load on them.

Best of luck!
