WANTED: Tesla model 3 rear motor case

Post by steveknox »

Hi All
I have a tesla model 3 motor with a broken motor mount, the non-removable one on the inverter/motor side connected to the case. Does anyone have a broken / damaged rear model 3 motor from which I could buy the case?

See below for what I need.

Thanks!

I have an intact M3 SDU I could pull that from. Are you willing to ship me your broken one, with the bushing & broken aluminum piece? What are you looking to spend?

Hi, thanks for the reply!

yea I'm willing to swap the parts but I don't have the missing bushing or broken aluminium piece unfortunately.

The removeable mount on the other side of the motor is the same diameter so my backup plan was to buy
one of those on ebay (~50gbp) and weld on the mount from there.

In terms of expenditure, i'm looking to spend maybe a few hundred GBP at most, but resources are limited

Cheers

Steve

I'm not sure it will be viable, especially as I would prefer to have a repairable housing.
My lowest DHL quote is ~$350 (USD)

Yes I don't think that's realistic. Thanks a lot for the offer though.

Don't you have anyone nearby who can weld aluminum?

Yep, but I'm worried about the strength of any patch repairs. Perhaps that's unfounded? Also I don't have the missing pieces so the miunt would need fabricating or transplanting from somewhere else.

I also realized the shipping would be significantly more. I forgot that the stator is affixed inside that housing, so the weight I provided is probably 10-20% of actual.
That's a bummer.
I do think it should be fairly easy to accomplish or surpass OEM strength of that mount using Aluminum MIG. Aluminum MIG (with a spoolgun) is an easy way to deposit a lot of metal quickly.
In fact on this drive unit, one of the other mounts is broken. That's how I plan to repair it when it comes time to use it.
