Source for Neo Magnets

Post by anatolewilson »

Hello folks, I'm going to be building a big diameter wheel motor and was shocked to see how much 6ft of magnets would cost, like $1000.
I'm wondering what used part source I could scavenge the magnets from, Prius rotors come to mind, anyone strip them out of the rotors?
Any other ideas?

hello! previously, I often made homemade bldc motors, and I always used magnets from the prius gen2 rotor. this is the best source in terms of price/quality ratio. there are 32 of them in one rotor. The size is approximately 40x18x6.5. Good luck!

Do you have pictures how they are arranged originally, how you get them out and how the self-made situation looks like? I'm just curious :-)
