Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
This is how I'm connecting the lexus serial cables between the Zombie and the inverter as I don't have any individually screened twisted pair cable

xtremely unreliable connectors; I do not recommend using them for important connections. It is better to use sealed automotive connectors.

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
you are correct not ideal for an automotive enviroment but I should have explained that this is temporary until my cable arrives but that's not until the end of december and I want to get on so I used what I had available

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
Re Bmwagon,
L210 trans , using Mg1 and Mg2
Prius zvw30 inverter,
76cells from Imeiv ,
Bmw E 61 I think was marked on driveshaft 2.7 diff,
Approx 26" tyre OD.
290v, around 90A observed max so far drawn on 5km trip
Also an indication of 34kw, which would be 115Aish.
Max speed on today's test run was 65kph, limited by traffic, an open road run is planned, but now rain has stopped progress. Aiming to find working limits.
Figure was around 4000rpm Mg2 speed.
Had struggled to find much information on the L210, so hence figured some trialing required.. Goal is to use this trans in a Soarer, where the L110 looks to bulky to fit the tunnel. In the absence of an available 300h inverter, a modified zvw30 inverter which are freely available some with faulty Boost converter, which is bypassed, seemed a good idea,
I did see on some post that 85kph had been achieved, can't find the post to re read, could anyone point me to it please.
Have worried the neighbour, who had glanced into the empty engine bay a short time before testing, and was aghast, stating emphatically But it's got no Engine.
I added , yes could take it to BMW and say think have a few cylinders missing!
Hope this information may help for anyone

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
The project is still progressing but very slowly due to the poor weather, everything is all in and all of the plumbing is done, I have got to finish running the BMS cables to the rear battery pack then start connecting the resolvers, inverter, Zombieverter, front battery pack and contactors together, re-connect the power steering, brake booster, gear lever and rewire and connect the accelerator pedal that’s a lot of wiring and I’m not doing it in the pissing rain

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
Hi, Nice installation and progress..
am still trying to get a handle on the limitations which maybe holding the Bmwagon back, and not having a Gs300h inverter to try, very keen to see your system running.
hopefully the gs300h inverter will be better matched to the L210 trans, than the Prius gen3 inverter, and the FW more effective.
Do you know your Differential ratio? And what is your battery nominal voltage?

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
I believe Nominal is 354v max 403v my current diff ratio is 3.49 but I will be changing it as it's badly worn so will hopefully be able to find a diff with a more suitable ratio

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
From the feel of what I've found, and the inverter i have my estimate would be that your max speed would be around 90kph, at your present nom V and diff ratio...
The 300h inverter will hopefully give a bit more.

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
It's been really slow going with the project lately but I'm still chipping away
I built my own controller to control the outlander charger, dc to dc, BMW f30 gear lever, brake booster, power steering and the cars canbus systems, power the Zombie as it has no standby mode and control my Nextion display but between Jamie and Damien I can now hand over half of that to the Zombie to deal with
ok maybe not half of it but the vehicle canbus, Gear lever and brake booster at least and maybe the charger
I've also been updating my Nextion display to suit the lexus setup
And I've fitted the f30 gear lever into the Z3
The mounting holes which I presume were for the automatic shifter were almost ideal just fitted them with some m6 rivnuts, made up a bracket and some spacers only took 30 minutes, shame it took me 2hrs to get the centre console out before I could do that

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
A reasonably successful day it's not connected to the battery as I still have to sort out the contactor and bms wiring so running it off of a 60V 5Amp psu and there is an issue with the dc to dc converter but overall it went ok I just need some more decent weather

Are we going to get a top speed video (performed on private property of course!)? Great work Andy

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
speaking of which I tried using the Zombie to control the brake booster but it was working the wrong way triggering the booster pump as vac increased so had to frig the setpoint to shut it off didn't get much time to play with it I'll have a look tomorrow if I get a chance might have been me being dumb

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
Looks like there are two types of vacuum sensor with the opposite polarities.
ZV is only coded for the type where a higher voltage is more vacuum and turns the pump off.

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
got the issue sorted with the dc to dc converter (my dodgy coding) and also got the contactors and shunt connected so now have it running off of the HV battery had it up to 45Mph up on my lift
didn't get around to testing Jamie's new code for the brake booster, will try to test it tomorrow if the weather holds
Still lots to do but I'm chipping away

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
Just to clarify 45 MPH was not it's max that was just as high as I was comfortable running it with the wheels 2 foot in the air and no load

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
You are making good progress, Just for reference the Bmwagon 3.75 ratio diff , using the Prius gen 3, zvw30 inverter , at Max MG2 speed, on a hoist, "2 foot" off the ground, test run was calculated at 130kph, or 82 Mph..
The cv joints put a telltale fine line of grease on the floor.
It did not appear that they had been dismantled to my knowledge, but is unknown history.. Maybe this is

Do you have a measure the Amps drawn on the bus at 45 MPH ?andybpowell wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 10:03 pm Just to clarify 45 MPH was not it's max that was just as high as I was comfortable running it with the wheels 2 foot in the air and no load
Also voltage.... Thanks.

Re: [WIP] BMW Z3
CV joints need to be dry when assembled. Unlike the inner bearings whenever you contaminate cv casing with grease you run a chance of sheding rubber boots!
