I bought a Honda Accord iBooster Gen 2 - Now what?

Post by Gregski »

I was having some difficulties with my Honda CR-V iBooster Gen 1 cause I had no idea what I was getting myself into, so I decided to do the right thing, and go out and buy a Gen 2 iBooster out of a wrecked Honda Accord. [wonder what caused the wreck? maybe bad brakes!]

Shopping List:
  • BOSCH iBooster
  • Master Cylinder
  • Remote Reservoir
  • Brake Pedal Assembly
  • Unfortunately no wire pigtails
this one I sourced locally from a mom and pop wrecking yard for a wad of cash ($250 maybe)

follow along and together we'll learn more about it and have a few laffs

"Luckily this kit comes with these adapters"

holds up two rotten 2x4 offcuts

Ahh, good stuff.

I'm now scared of trying my Gen1 after yours crapped the bed.

Fluttering and pulsating seems to be an electrical problem :/

lol, yeah, not to hijack this thread but judging by the condition of the Gen 1 MC (master cylinder) my buddy and I assume that donor vehicle may have suffered a flood, so stay tuned for an iBooster autopsy (let's just say a Dremel may be involved)

Just fyi: i have this in my Subaru Impreza conversion. The plug you can buy in the link below, works perfectly well, and all the can code for the Accord ibooster you can find in the code on GitHub of openpilot.

thanks I just bought this kit, Lars did a great job of taking all the guess work out of it, it can really be a pain to identify and track down all the little pins, gaskets, etc.

FYI, junkyard sellers do not wan to cut off pig tails off of the main engine bay wire harness, they say they sell the complete harness to those who have flooded cars

this is what the Honda CRV Gen 1 BOSCH iBooster larger plug looks like, I say this for two reasons:
  • 1. it does fit the Gen 2 Honda Accord BOSCH iBooster
  • 2. however I can not confirm if the wire colors are exactly the same

Well, I know I can buy it, but it's $140. I paid $55 for my whole brake booster and master cylinder.

I'm way too cheap to pay $140 for a few wires.

If we knew which ones it was, I presume it's far, far, far cheaper to buy the connectors directly. Hell it might be cheaper from a damned dealership.

You're right, but I see it that way that I'm buying me time not having to put research in it. If it would be listed here by someone what exactly we had to buy, i had done that :D

I'm happy that I've got a functional ibooster for my openpilot car now 8-)

I'm not sure if we really know the can messages to get this ibooster to work? I know it works in Failsafe Mode, but it would be awesome for openpilot cases to know how to control it.

Can someone have a look into this, too?
https://github.com/commaai/opendbc/blob ... erated.dbc
Or
https://github.com/commaai/opendbc/blob ... h_2018.dbc

There it says:

BO_ 229 BOSCH_SUPPLEMENTAL_1: 8 XXX
SG_ SET_ME_X04 : 0|8@1+ (1,0) [0|255] "" XXX
SG_ SET_ME_X00 : 8|8@1+ (1,0) [0|255] "" XXX
SG_ SET_ME_X80 : 16|8@1+ (1,0) [0|255] "" XXX
SG_ SET_ME_X10 : 24|8@1+ (1,0) [0|255] "" XXX
SG_ COUNTER : 61|2@0+ (1,0) [0|3] "" XXX
SG_ CHECKSUM : 59|4@0+ (1,0) [0|15] "" XXX

BO_ 232 BRAKE_HOLD: 7 XXX
SG_ XMISSION_SPEED : 7|14@0- (1,0) [1|0] "" XXX
SG_ COMPUTER_BRAKE : 39|16@0+ (1,0) [0|0] "" XXX
SG_ COMPUTER_BRAKE_REQUEST : 29|1@0+ (1,0) [0|0] "" XXX
SG_ COUNTER : 53|2@0+ (1,0) [0|3] "" XXX
SG_ CHECKSUM : 51|4@0+ (1,0) [0|15] "" XXX

Edit: :!:

Observations:

SG_ COMPUTER_BRAKE_REQUEST : 29|1@0+ (1,0) [0|0] "" XXX
Computer brake request is ID 232 decimal, 0xE8 hex, the length is 7 bytes.
Specific brake request message starts at position 29 and is 1 bit long - at this point it's clear that this one can only be 1 or 0...

So let's try this one:
SG_ COMPUTER_BRAKE : 39|16@0+ (1,0) [0|0] "" XXX
Computer brake is also in can ID232 with 7 bytes. The specific message starts at position 39 and is 16 bits long, so two bytes. That's a pretty big value but a serious candidate for controlling the ibooster.

Any thoughts on that?
