Post by Bratitude »

They say it’s from a rivian, but the rivian (I believe) only has 120v outlets, not 240v like they said, probably a similar unit though

the unit looks identical, same ports, housing, fan layout, etc.

came to revisit this as these units are now found in a lot of toyotas aswell, and are quite useful!
i found this thread post on someone installing one in a outlander phev that didnt come with one stock.
https://www.myoutlanderphev.com/threads ... phev.6607/

heres the pdf how-to they made with some good info

the low voltage connector is:
1717106-2-ND
pins:
1674311-7

12v wiring excerpt from the pdf:

"Though I did not have documentation for the inverter, wiring diagrams for the vehicle I found online
said the car connects five of the twelve pins. Using a pin numbering system where you look into the
male connector, pin 1 is top-right, pin 6 is top-left, and pin 12 is bottom-left, the following
connections are made:
Pin 2 – Series connection to ground for active indicator light and the A/C-ECU.
Pin 5 – Series connection to ground for on/off toggle switch.
Pin 7 – Connection to positive activated by the ignition switch.
Pin 9 – Ground
Pin 10 – Connection to the PHEV-ECU.
I suspect pin 2 communicates that the battery is in
use. This tells the A/C-ECU to regulate the battery
temperature if it is needed. I think pin 10 is for the
car to tell the inverter when it is okay to function.
The manual said the inverter works only when the
engine is ready to charge the battery so this pin
would signal that the conditions are met. I did
some experimenting and discovered the inverter
would come on when positive 12V was applied to
this pin.
My initial desire was to wire pins 2 and 10 normally, but since the factory wiring did not exist and I
ran short of time to run my own, I opted to wire the inverter to run independently of the rest of the
car. This does have the advantage of being able to get power without climbing into the driver’s seat
and turning on the ignition, but my friend could now completely drain the PHEV battery, which
would be bad. My final wiring connected directly to the 12V battery and looked like this.

I opted to connect ignition power, pin 7, directly to power as it had a high resistance so it’s draw is
effectively negligible. Pins 5 and 10 were switched as their resistance suggested they could draw up
to 800 mA. "
