There was another element that I was scratching my head about. There was a guy from Michelin (I think) there do all the necessary to get the best out of the tyres... but did you see the tyre profile? Super low. To get a decent launch in drag racing, I have seen them use tall profile tyres. This is to reduce the chance of wheel spin, losing you tenths of seconds, once you put the hammer down. The tyre wall twists and contorts, reducing some of the immediate energy directly to the tarmac. No mention from the Michelin Man that they might want to adopt the drag car rubber plantation setup to gain some seconds.
The range anxiety narrative was given further oxygen too by the apparent failure of charge points along his trip which didn't help.
