Re: Running an extra motor for regen only

If converting a 4WD vehicle, would there be any advantage in adding a 2nd motor for the FWD component and using it solely for regen? You could, but it's a lot of space, packaging, work, and likely weight specifically for regen. In a similar thought experiment you could use a large motor for the fro...

Re: [Driving] Homebuilt Locost 7 - from Motorcycle engine to Leaf power!

I even found a spot to try accelerating hard from a stop and discovered it's possible to spin the rear wheels. I can also tell from the video that the car is transferring a lot of weight to the back when accelerating this hard. I do think I am going to have to go with stiffer springs! If you're wil...

Re: Tesla Small Drive Unit (SDU) Gear Box Fluid leaked

The encoder would very likely be completely fine running submerged in oil. The shaped o-ring is likely meant as a backup to keep oil out of the inverter area if the oil seal leaks. Seems like the shaft seal has a leak there if there's oil inside. The o-ring swelling sounds like they may have used th...

Used the optimum gasket maker. Put a thin layer on the inside of the holes of the plastic cover to seal any gaps between plastic and wires. Made a thin gasket between the plastic cover and the metal of the of the frame. Thin layer inside of the sensor hole. Hand tightened. Torqued after 1h of curin...

Re: Tesla Small Drive Unit (SDU) Gear Box Fluid leaked

Oil is difficult to ignite. It needs to be thin and well atomized to light. Or it needs very high heat.
There's also a fixed amount of oxygen available inside the transmission, so even if it did manage to light it would be very short lived.

Re: Tesla Small Drive Unit (SDU) Gear Box Fluid leaked

I'd suggest way lower than 10psi if you decide to pressurize it.
The oil will thin out a bunch when it gets warm and will leak out easier then.
My suggestion is to drive it and check. Then if it seems good, check the oil level at 100, 1000, and 3000 miles.

How available are the 900 transaxles? You could likely adapt a motor to fit in the oil pan area but you might put too much power through it to last.

I just ordered a batch of 5. The DRV103U IC's were pre-ordered already & in. Should arrive in about 2 weeks.

Price went up, they're about $30 each with shipping and the pre-ordered IC costs.

JLCPCB does cnc work now. You can setup a commission based on your design there if you want. myrav4ev wants you to login to look at pictures. Not everyone wants an account. The design could be modified to have an o-ring on the OD of the plug. If threading that bore in the housing is an option / easy...

Strange things happen. From looking at your pictures it's oriented 90° to how it would normally be, right?

What are the chances that an air pocket ends up stuck up top?

I'd be surprised if cool temps threw a limp mode.

The heatsink on the DRV103 is required to be separate from the ground plane. It look...

Finally got around to installing into the inverter (V0.0.3 board) and see here there might be some TMPHS issues. -R13 is a pull down resistor for the T_SINK input. This is at 3K3 in V0.0.1 but unsure if this is ideal. There are 2 plated thru holes on each side of R13 to use to make testing the idea...

Brake boosters are supposed to hold enough vacuum at least a few presses of the brake pedal to help you push the brake. If it kicks on every 2 minutes that means you have a leak and your pump likely won't last very long. Our your vacuum switch doesn't have much hysteresis. A reserve tank will lessen...

That contactor is 1.27A with 11 ohms @ 14v.

Is that the heatsink version of the DRV103 on the board?

Do you have a spare board you could test with your Pacifica contactors?
