Re: Telsa LDU HV cables' OD [SOLVED]

You can't lock the car in Ready mode unless the RFID FOB (the "key") is inside the vehicle. It's the same problem with DCFC with JDemo. That's why I need to do a CAN solution that emulates the OBC when DCFC.

Aside from that, it should CCS DCFC OK in Ready mode.

Re: Telsa LDU HV cables' OD [SOLVED]

At the simplest: Doing things the JDemo way (placing the car in "Ready" mode), the BMS closes the HV pack contactors and activates the HV rail (LDU wires are "hot"). The BMS will then handle pack cooling/heating. With the LDU wires hot, the new contactors in the new HVJB can conn...

Tip: if you edit your image with something other than your phone, then save it, it'll likely reset the EXIF rotation tag to something more sane, so when people open the uploaded image, it doesn't suddenly rotate 90°.

It's a browser-honoring-the-standard thing.

Re: Telsa LDU HV cables' OD [SOLVED]

I'm reasonably certain that a CCS inlet will not fit within the current circular location. The bottom of the CCS connector is flat. Maybe modifying the top of the CCS port, eliminating the lock? Not recommended, but . . . what's your risk tolerance? IMG_4855.jpg IMG_4856.jpg IMG_4857.jpg If you're n...

Re: Telsa LDU HV cables' OD [SOLVED]

I'm concerned with combining the wires for AC home charging with the wires for DCFC. Tesla (NACS) shares the two wires for AC & DC charging. I can't speak to the later models, but the early Model S' OBC's input can accept (tolerate, really) either AC or DC. The Model S doesn't so much switch th...

Re: EV car conversion hardware

The pre-charge is already handled by the Tesla BMS, which in Tesla fashion is integral to the 860 lb. HV pack assy (represented by the right-facing blue arrow in that diagram above). This project is modifying an existing OEM EV, to add CCS1 DCFC, so I'm integrating with a lot of things that already ...

Over at https://openinverter.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=56019 I asked if the DCFC leads needed to be shielded. OEMs I've seen (BMW, Tesla) use shielded leads from the charge inlet, but I would think that there wouldn't be significant EMI while charging -- unlike the leads feeding eg the AC drive inve...

Re: I think I CAN, I think I CAN...

Maybe in robotics-land you can send a command once and be done, but in automotive-land, modules expect you to repeat yourself often, and if they don't hear from you, they assume something bad happened to you and they stop sending you money. Hence, we have code that has 10ms loops, 50ms loops, 100ms ...

Telsa LDU HV cables' OD [SOLVED]

I've got a set of early LDU cables (1004872-00-B) on the way (via eBay), but until they arrive . . . Do you have an accurate OD of these cables? I'm trying to order EMC shielded cable glands, and I need to verify that the HV cables for the LDU are <18mm OD, or larger than that. 18mm is the typical b...

50mm2 shielded cabling

I'm in the US, and I'm having trouble finding a supplier for 50mm2 shielded cable in orange with a 600v rating. I've found a couple of retailers overseas (UK), but they're either out of stock or don't ship to the US. Note that I prefer not to substitute 1/0 AWG for 50mm2, though if a supplier of shi...

Yeah, I got caught by this, too: https://www.kicad.org/download/linux/ . . . once you update to 7.x and start modifying a project, you will no longer be able to open that project in any 6.x version. Fortunately, for Ubuntu, upgrading Kicad from 6.x to 7 is fairly painless: d...

A tablespoon of oil will make an enormous mess on the floor or distributed by moving air over external components, but won't show up on a level check. That said, the color of your streak/stain alone makes one think of rust, not ATF.

I bought mine for a specific MiTM project, but later found that a MiTM solution for that issue wasn't needed, so it sits here on my desk :(

Some of the CAN transceiver add-ons for Teensy have lousy reputations; SK Pang and Copperhill don't, which is why I bought this kit from them.
