Re: 1970 Opel GT - Forklift ACIM - Project Log & Inverter Build

Do you even need a brake booster, those didn't have power brakes from the factory did they? They sure did. Normally a brake booster is against the firewall, right behind the brake pedal. Well, because this whole vehicle was an argument between the engineers and the management, with the engineers in...

On recommendation of someone else here, I bought these.

$26 CAD, available on Prime.

And they've worked satisfactorily.

Hey Matt, have you gotten the Opel rolling yet? Finished the rebuild of the front suspension last week. Finishing up the rear suspension tonight if I'm lucky. Needs paint and to press in the new bushings. Finishing the driveline assembly tomorrow if everything goes perfect. Then it could be tested ...

Re: Doing useful things with the Prius Gen2 buck/boost converter

Via the A/C inverter it will just boost. Via MG1 it will just buck. You need an additional relay to connect the battery to the buck side while charging. At least then you don't need the extra current sensor because it will use the MG1 ones I think I mostly understand this, but not sure I'd apply it...

The coda throttle is dual channel, one channel reads 0.8 to 4.6V and the other 0.3 to 1.3V when on my 5v power supply. How does that relate to the Throttle settings of 0-4095? milavolts? Greg just posted a tutorial on how to do this with the ZombieVerter, but the process is so simple, and borrowed ...

from 0.8V to 4.2V you calibrate that area with some overhead to eliminate jumpiness. Say calibrate from 0.85V to 3.99V. This will then mean 0 to 100% throttle motion, everything else will be ignored. In the original setup documentation, the notes say that you're supposed to calibrate the throttle t...

"Digits" I think is, maybe a poor translation, based on Johannes' feedback to me a few years ago. In English, digits means how many orders of magnitude. Like, 5927 is 4 digits. 218 is 3 digits. How many columns the number takes up. "Units" might be a closer meaning. For example, ...

The reason trucks and SUVs skirt around this rule, is that the goal of the rule isn't what it says it is. It's not an environmental policy. It's trade protectionism masquerading as environmental policy to skirt trade regulations. Who makes SUVs and trucks? Not Japanese manufacturers, not European ma...

I presume you know this, but the reason the pins on a switch are counterintuitive, is because the switch has a pivot in the middle. Like a teeter totter, when one side of the lever goes up, the other side goes down. So the back end of the lever that actually does the switching, points to the opposit...

I don't post a lot of updates here ever, but, rebuilt the rear suspension and have just started rebuilding the front suspension, including paying more for all the boots, bushings, brakelines and thingamabobs than I did for both entire cars. Re: Battery sizing and assumptions based on ICE performance

Just a sanity check, working at it backwards...

82kwh / 115 miles = 713wh/mile.

That's about double what a car gets. Which, for a van that normally only gets 19mpg (versus a slipperier car that gets 40mpg)... yep.

This is probably within 10%.

So charging feature would work but not powering the dcdc converter while driving. Oh, I misunderstood. In the video you shared, you say it uses the A/C inverter to do this? With the SMT version of the Prius controller this is integrated. Good news, I also bought one of those 2nd hand from someone who went a different way. So I have both hardwares. In drive mode the "user PWM" pin runs the boost converter at a fixed rate. In charge mode the regular PWM runs i...
