Advantages & Disadvantages

Induction Motors (have no natural magnets, rely on electricity to create a temporary magnetic field)
AdvantagesDisadvantages
  • Lower Cost
  • Lower Torque
  • Low Spin Loss
  • Lower Efficiency

Permanent Magnet Motors
AdvantagesDisadvantages
  • Higher Torque
  • Higher Spin Loss
  • Higher Efficiency
  • "Can't Turn Off"

Tesla model S/X only use ACIM motors front/back

Tesla Model 3/Y uses PMSM motor in the back and ACIM motor at the front. Its because of low spin loss ACIM is prefered as secondary motor...

Nissan Leaf uses PMSM IPM

BMW I3 uses PMSM IPM

Toyota Prius uses PMSM

Mitsubishi Outlander PMSM IPM
