ZombieVerter CAN for Instrument Cluster
Hey All,
Merry Christmas and a Happy new year for all celebrating.
I'm currently attempting to turn off all the unnecessary light on my dash which is common when swapping out the engine.
I have a BMW E93, with a Leaf Gen3 running the ZombieVerter 2.20a and a 38.3 KWH Hyundai ioniQ Battery-pack.
Managed to get most things working, however my dash has the Airbag and check engine light active and i'm not sure how to turn them off.
Additionally, when attempting to connect to K CAN to the CAN connections on the VCU, the internal lights in the and the KOMBI system flashes off and on until I disconnect the CAN wired from the VCU. I've tested this on both CAN 1 and 2, with the same result.
Both CAN 1 and 2 are successfully able to operate the PT CAN of the Leaf Gen3 Inverter, producing torque and essentially driving the wheels of the car
I've tried all the BMW Vehicle CAN options on the VCU, saving all setting, shutting down and disconnecting the VCU's power and completely restarting on each Vehicle option, however the issue remains the same.
Has anyone came across this? Am I missing something in terms of connections or coding? From what I've read so far, this should be a direct connection please let me know if other wise.

have you connected it to the BMW PT CAN? Then use the BMW E6x option. Do not have anything else besides the vehicle on that CAN bus.
The vehicle will need to go to sleep and wake up properly for the Zombie to try and keep the vehicle happy. If this is not the case we will need CAN logs to review of the BMW PT CAN with the Zombie working.

Are you saying that the Leaf stack CAN should be on eg CAN 1 and the BMW’s PT CAN should be on CAN 2? And do you think that having both vehicle and Leaf Stack on the same CAN eg CAN 1 on the ZVerter could potentially be problematic?

So I managed to swap the CAN device over and sure enough, the cluster is responding however my Airbag light (Restraint System faulty) is still on unfortunately. It definitely hasn't been deployed previously, so know it should not be on. Is there a particular set of messages for that?

Well I'm on VW but when I had the airbag light on I had to clear DTCs in the airbag controller itself

This has nothing to do with the engine ecu which we are replicating. You need to get into the airbag ecu via OBD and figure out what you did. and reset it.

Interesting, I thought about it after the fact, but thanks a lot, I’ll check it out.

Many vehicles will latch airbag faults on until reset. So for instance if you had powered the vehicle on with a airbag or crash sensor unplugged, and have since reconnected it, the light will remain on until the fault is cleared within the Airbag ECU.

Hi Tom,
I’m having a little trouble resetting the codes on the car, the OBD doesn’t seem to be reading any on the car, could it be because I’ve removed the original ECU completely?

Who knows where your codes are stored and which ones are present. You are providing very little info.
