I just bought a Mitsubishi Outlander charger. - Now What?

Post by Gregski »

[not another one of theses posts]

You would be hard pressed to find a Mitsubishi Outlander EV in the states, but having heard many a good things about their components I decided to buy one from the UK and have it shipped to America, especially after the eBay seller offered one up for 95 foot pounds, or newton meters or something?

So here is my story from the Colonies perspective, by a non electrical engineer for non electrical engineers, (but hopefully with the help of electrical engineers).

Third Generation Model Years: 2013–2021

Fun Facts: The introduction in the United States was initially scheduled for January 2014, but was delayed. Due to California's regulations that require a battery-monitoring unit (BMU), Mitsubishi delayed the market launch in the U.S. to mid-2017 as model year 2017.

Looking forward to the next video were we get to see the charger right side up!

The connector is also used on the GS450H transmission ( ECT solenoid ) Toyota 90980-12326 .

The wiki page pin out table is a bit confusing as the pin numbers from the schematic do not match the numbers on the connector.
I first made up the connector with the pinout back to front, so I have taken the data from the wiki and simplified it as below. This is the pin numbers as marked on the connector.

It looks like you might need a cable gland for the high voltage port, so this might interest you: viewtopic.php?t=3563 (shameless plug...umm..gland :D ).

appreciate it, and "Shameless" is my middle name, ha ha, I must admit I just spent half an hour starring at that thread and spinning my charger around 960° back and forth only to realize you do not show a pic of the "high voltage port gland" for the charger, but only for the inverter, I take ownership of that dumb moment, as I write this I plan on purchasing the OEM Battery Charger cable W309B18771 unless I hear otherwise, obviously I suffer from OEMicitis

For ease of use i cut my chargers DC cables and put MC4 connectors on them. This view is of inverter side. Charger side is mirrored...
download/file.php?id=27358&mode=view

I find charger polarity according to this procedure...
viewtopic.php?p=8215#p8215
Yes there needs to be a system as i need to connect all my chargers to DC lines in the same way.

EDIT: There is one other consideration for MC4 connectors. I can now use normal solar Y parallel connectors and connect 2x chargers to inverter for 2 phase charging :).

Well yes, the High Voltage gland is identical for charger and inverter.

A lot of breakers seem to see packaging as a cheap way of getting rid of rubbish they would otherwise have to pay for some one to take away, I guess you were unlucky and ordered just after bin day :)

I got two of them from Poland in the same sort of packaging. It seems like this stuff is quite resillient and packaging is there just because... :).

I just received another heater myself. Its good to have spares. With Outlander parts its simple replacement if something goes wrong.

I used to write Aircraft Maintenance Programs for a living. I will simply add new component page to Mazda manual :).

This one is shorter. There is another which is a bit larger. Both the same way internally.
