Updates to SAE J3068 and SAE J3068/1

Post by jrbe »

University of Delaware professor Willett Kempton is a pioneer of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology. In fact, he and his team of EV researchers at the university have been turning electric vehicles into grid batteries since 2007, when they kicked off a first-of-a-kind experiment that’s since been replicated in V2G projects around the world.

But Kempton is well aware of the technology and policy gaps that are holding V2G back from mainstream adoption. That’s why he’s spent years working with colleagues and students on updates to a technology standard that he hopes will make mass-market V2G a realistic option for automakers, utilities and drivers alike.

And the SAE paywall to the info...to help mass adoption?

That’s because NACS supports a different communications technology that’s simpler and cheaper to implement than CCS’ technology
Anyone know what that "different technology" is?

says it is a kind of LIN, together with analog levels on the CP. Never heard about this before.

And even open source reference Implementation https://github.com/udv2g/saej3068-ref

There's a lot weird about the choices made here in the US. I wish 3 phase power was common for residential.

Lots of talk and fear mongering about upgrading the grid but I haven't seen anyone talking about upgrading to 3 phase as part of that. It's the right move but definitely not easy at this point. It would be ideal for there to be 1 worldwide 3 phase ev plug.
