Thanks for noting this, the Prius 3 is still not fully worked out. Luckily we resolved some issues so it should be ready for a driving vehicle and more testing.

Quite some copy pasting going on between the GS450h and Prius Gen3 and IS300h. Surprised things are just working :)

well this really urks the Greg, apparently the Prius transaxle butt ie it's differential is offset to the passenger side, so by putting the transaxle in the middle of the motor bay, now the driver side drive axle (pictured on top) is longer than the passenger side

Can the Greg ignore this or will he abandon the entire build and buy a Tesla?

don't tell nobody but this ol' Rabbit is a fun little car to work on

I hope the angles will de-extreme themselves once the axles are no longer drooping and are under load

I've heard that when joining axles the wrong way, to never cut them square. You cut them at 45 degree angles. That way if the weld seam shatters, they're still forced to spin each other, where a square cut would not.

I know of two ways to join CV axles... and both of them are wrong!

I think it is pretty common for the two drive shafts to be different lengths in FWD cars.

Correct... the car the transaxle came out of is this way... except it's much longer on the passenger side.

That looks really good!

Hm... did you accoount for the movement of the loaded axle? It should have like 0.5cm movement in its loaded position. Just saying because i didnt think of that the first time and i had to shave the CV side down on the lathe!!!

yes sir, I installed them while the Prius inner CV joints were in the cups in what I call neutral position meaning they could go in at least one inch and travel out one inch as well

I just checked the angles the and driver side is at 9° which I can live with but the passenger is at 11.5° and I recall reading somewhere that 12° is the most they can tolerate

the reason I pushed the envelope on those angles is because I moched up the transaxle location without the "cups" in it because mine did not come with them, well once the cups are installed they protrude an additional 5" or so either way aka left and right

these are the cups I keep referring to, I scored these later from another junkyard

Fuck yeah!

WOOOOO!

We're now tied. If you ignore that my inverter isn't mounted and I don't have a battery pack, or a windshield, or doors, or that mine has never run outside of manual mode and never with the pedal, then it's a tie!

I might still be ahead of you on brakes and mistakes though.

Ha ha, if brakes and mistakes were an Olympic event, I'm pretty sure we both would end up on the podium

This connector is easy to de pin, just get the TPA cover off, short sides small screw driver or de pinning tool and should come up easily. Then two bars on each of side of the pins, small pressure on the wire when doing it ensures it stays released so you can do one side at a time.

Agree, harvest those extra leads and you may have enough extra to only need to buy the cheaper bare connector for your next conversion :)

stop reading my mind, I just bought that extra plain connector Tom recommended, my OCD could not handle having a black permanent 12 volt power lead, we must shuffle the colors around or else we loose the shop
