Motor and Inverter Selection for SeaDoo

Hi all, I recently picked up a 1997 SeaDoo with no motor. I plan to drop in relatively small electric motor, inverter, battery pack and hook it up to the original impeller. I have a weight target of about 250 lbs. Currently I am considering using elements from a gen3 Prius and the openinverter board. Since the only features I need are On/Off, forward selection, and throttle, I am considering using only the MG2 unit connected to a ~2:1 gear dropdown to ~7000 rpm. Has anyone here worked with the MG2 unit alone? Or is there another setup which is better than this approach?

Thanks

A lot depends on your power needs as well. The Outlander rear could be mechanically simpler and is water cooled (front is oil cooled). Keeping the diff and bracing/locking one side would give you a ~3.5:1 ratio. The original inverter just needs CAN and is good for 96S. Likely overkill, but close to the original 110HP rating?
