Orientation of Leaf cells

Hi guys,
I'm planning to upgrade my parents Leaf with a 40 kWh-pack I already bought (thanks to m.art.y).
The old 24 kWh-pack will be used in a home storage system.

Afaik the pouch-cells used in the Leaf don't care about orientation or am I wrong?

I would like to install the battery leaning on a wall (secured by threaded rods). But that would mean the cells that normally stand next to each other would be stacked.

Do you think this will be a problem? Or is there something else I've overlooked?

Some cells are stacked in the original pack as well. I think the force pressing them together with bolts is higher than the gravimetrical force when stacking them.

True.
But those cells are dying the most often.
Of course it's not easy to decide, that this position or the accumulating heat is killing them...

Huh, interesting! I also noticed in Björn Nylands test drives that there is a massive temperature difference between the lowest and highest temperature on longer drives. I wonder which cells run hottest? One temp sensor is in the rear 48S brick, the other 2 in the front horizontal bricks.

yes, the Leaf battery construction is not a success story
7 samurais decided to develop an EV battery without cooling.
And if the battery doesn't need cooling, then why bother with temp sensors?
There would be no problem, if they would been successfull.
But they failed...
At least 3 times.



Leaf was my favourite EV for years.
Still think that it's great in the city, if you charge it at home, and accept the degradation from year to year.
