Porsche Taycan Battery
For my build starting to look for batteries.
On YouTube and on here it seems that 'Alu LG Bricks' look quite compact. (ID3,4 , iPace and Taycan)...
And guess what I found: Taycan modules.
Originally in the car 33 modules and together wired for 800Volts (93kwh).
I want to try to fit 32 of them and go with half the volts.
Question: Would you parallel on brick level or per pack of 16?
Since the CCM is integrated in the brick I want to reuse it.
(and it's a pain to get in these laserwelded castings).
If research is right that should be very well doable.
Since the bricks don't have CANBus I wanted to build a Gateway to just do that. Send out over CAN all the values etc.
What should it do more then: monitoring voltages per cell, temperatures and rebalance them when settled/commanded?

Re: Porsche Taycan Battery
I got these bricks talking with the onboard CCM using: https://www.nxp.com/design/development- ... M33664BEVB
And the NXP demo software and it all just works, which means the CCM uses the stock NXP firmware.

Re: Porsche Taycan Battery
Cool! That's exactly what I was hoping for. I want to have that in a small Can Based VCU.

Re: Porsche Taycan Battery
BMS seems to be built around the NXP MC33664 / MC33771, configured in 4 strings. Got a BMS-master here for reverse-engineering. Does someone have the full datasheet of these IC's available ? The basic datasheet is available at the NXP website, the full one (in which I hope to find the protocol description) is only available under NDA.

Yes, i have them but they are NDAed and as you might guess i ain't gonna share --> bet my house on itFJ3422 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 1:24 pm BMS seems to be built around the NXP MC33664 / MC33771, configured in 4 strings. (all pages are water-marked etc.)
I will make the boards (with the software loaded) available when i'm done.
It won't be open-source but since i'm building a gateway (MC33664 to CanBus) i don't think it will be needed.
The way the gateway works can be discussed in this thread if you have a good idea.
Your master BMS can then implement the logic and decide what to do for example read battery data, write commands etc.

What is your plan with the boards?FJ3422 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 1:24 pm BMS seems to be built around the NXP MC33664 / MC33771, configured in 4 strings. You can reuse the components from that BMS master to make the board complete. This saves on components which are hard to get by now.
What are you trying to get out of the original BMS?

From a supplier. I can supply you with them. How the hell did you find them?
DM me if you are interested in a quote.

Re: Porsche Taycan Battery
If you have the full datasheet of these ICs, I would be interested in receiving a quote for them. I'm mainly looking for input and output messages for the current and voltages of the battery pack inside the vehicle so I'd like to know if the information that I am looking for is inside the database file. If so, let me know what would be the best way for me to reach out to you.

Re: Porsche Taycan Battery
The data sheets cover the lowest level of communication, protocol. Basically the possible communication between the modules and the uC
The CanBus data is system implementation level. Implementation level is done by Porsche. You will need the funktionrahmen for the Taycan for that description.
I ain't gonna sell or otherwise distribute these sheets because it's not what i sign a NDA for also it ain't worth the risk.

Re: Porsche Taycan Battery
Hi EV builder,
I was reading your posts with great joy!!!
I wanted to use the modules, but didn’t manage to create the SPI gateway myself.
If you finish your work and you are able to sell it, I am in!
To all others here:
I actually purchased taycan batteries. I decided to use different modules.
If anyone is interested in my taycan batteries, feel free to text me. They are located in Germany.
Kind regards

Re: Porsche Taycan Battery
Hi everyone,
I hope it's not to late to ask
I have some Taycan module. I know those module use TPL communication with NXP MC33664 / MC33771, so I will build a board with a MC33664.
Do you know if I can "easily" read all cells voltages with an arduino and the MC33664 ? Maybesomeone could help me with that ?
Thanks !

Re: Porsche Taycan Battery
Hi! I read you got a BMS-Master PCB. I would like to do some reverse engineering on it. Can you please provide some high resolution pictures of both side of the PCB, in order to see the components mounted on it, and the connectors.FJ3422 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 1:24 pm BMS seems to be built around the NXP MC33664 / MC33771, configured in 4 strings. Also, if you don't need the PCB anymore, and willing to sell it, let me know. I am interested on it.
Thank you in advance.
