Mini Cooper S with AGV (Ford Transit) inverter with Openinverter v3.0

Post by prensel »

I have an AGV Ford Transit inverter that i'm going to retrofit with Johannes' OpenInverter v3.
The AGV has proprietary sofware and no information is available.

The parts used inside the inverter are:

Three Mitsubishi CM600DY-12NF IGBT's
Each IGBT has a Skyper32 IGBT driver with a 1.5uF/850V snubber cap.
The IGBT's are connected with two busbars with three paralleled RIFA PEH200YT4220MU2 2200uF / 450DC caps.
There are LEM HAL400-S current sensors on phase 2 and 3 and on HVpos. Four PTC thermistors, one for each IGBT and the fourth on the (watercooled) casing.

There's a 100R precharge and main contactor on HVneg and an extra relay that enables HV input/output for charging.

The 12VDC converter is made from two paralleled XP Power modules (MHP650PS12) that provide 12V/50A each.
These are actually AC/DC (240AC/12VDC) converters but they seem to work as DC/DC converter also (the AC input side is connected to the HV busbars)

The AGV motor is connected to a BorgWarner gearbox all together mounted in a sturdy frame that could pretty easy be installed into anything. This setup is going to be used in a R53 Mini Cooper S and used as a trackday car.

I see two inevitable TI DSPs :D
What is that long-ish board above the phase outputs for?
Hoping I can get the board out soon, currently this is slowing everything down:

It used to be called just "winter" nowadays with it being a rare event it is called "snow chaos"

Yes you're correct there are two TI DSP's on there. One is driving that long board that carries the Skyper drivers. The other DSP is taking care of all the inputs/outputs.

I'm figuring out what type of motor it is.
Seems some sort of protoype BorgWarner thing regarding the sticker.
Theres no nameplate or anything alse on there.
Beside the three power cables it has 9 smaller wires coming out of the motor.
Four wires (two sets of two) seem to be for the temp sensors
The other 5 wires are for positioning sensors but i havent figured what type.

If you short out the phase cables and it becomes hard to spin by hand, it is a permanent magnet motor... But then 5 wires wouldn't suffice for a resolver.

The problem is that the motor is not viewable/accessible at all. It is enclosed in a casted alloy shell with CNC milled endplates. By the looks and size (17cm wide and 34cm diameter) of it I'm thinking it could be a Remy HVH motor.

Here's a view on the connectorside:

There seem to be two sets of temp sensors but only one set is connected.

I thought that the AGV transit conversion was an DC motor.
Did got this setup working in your mini?
I have an Volvo V50 that was built by AGV that has the same motor and controller. I got it as an non runner. The only problem should be an battery not charging due to not being balanced anymore. But ofcourse that is not the only problem (I have an intro on this car on youtube). I am still trying to understand the eig BMS system (without it the system wont work, even with the relais "manually" opened via an bypass).
