With the beetle now being my only (was) working vehicle after getting rid of the diesel backup, I've got nothing to drive.

I had a few MK1 Golf GTi's in the 80's and broke quite a few CV joints and it was always pulling away with the wheel on lock and this will be much worse on an EV with the high levels of torque I wonder if production EV's have stronger CV joints than ICE version's

What made you think it was the inner CV, any that failed on me it was the outer.
with the car on the ground if you grab the drive shaft and push it around is there movement?
There should be slight movement in and out of the cups to allow for the suspension going up and down but no lateral movement
Have you checked for an issue in the brake caliper or even something really silly like a wheel weight catching?

Is easy to drop a ball out of the cv joint while trying to get them in but it's not obvious. The cage can also explode. Do you see evidence of the boot twisting?

Did the thunk happen with the cv disconnected ‐ gearbox issue..?

I agree in front wheel drives I've only ever had outer joints fail the greater angles they operate under stresses the joint and the gaiter but aint hindsight a wonderful thing

A couple motor mounting bolts have snapped. Theory is, I'd not use thread lock and they've loosened and then the final impact snapped them. So motor is twisting entire engine/gearbox etc. It explains why slow turning by hand, or coasting was ok. It was immediately obvious when I had a helper to observe.

Yea, it's fine without the drive shaft connected. Next thought is outer CV or bent shaft?

Looks like something binding or catching. Brake rotor isn't destroyed?
If the brakes are OK that leaves wheel bearing (unlikely) or outer cv.

Can you turn it by hand and feel where it hits? If so get it close and hold the driveshaft while you rotate / bump nto it. Might be able to narrow it down.

My $ is on outer cv joint.
