resolver benefit?

Post by madius »

Hello everyone, I have a question for a long time and I can't get any information about it on the internet.
basically that's what the title says,
what is the benefit of using a resolver instead of a digital encoder?

A digital encoder will give you rotor speed.
A resolver will give you rotor speed and angular position.

For an induction motor, a resolver is unnecessary and an encoder works fine - but a permanent magnet motor absolutely requires a resolver.

I am trying to run ACIM motor with resolver. I have partial success. Motor runs under torque but is rough and I feel phase cables getting warm. I can't find the cause of this.
I will try to use thicker phase cables first. Then I will try to play with resolver input voltage.
