Citroen C8 with Tesla stuff

Hi !

I have a conversion going of a 2005 Citroen C8 to electric.
Tesla LDU and full 85kwh battery to go in there and also two 11kw Gen 2 chargers.

I have been stalled for over six months now mostly due to lack of time.
But I feel that I need to get the car on the road soon.

Damien is always a good source of inspiration, so I follow pretty much everything he does.

I will try to upload some info and pictures.

BTW the C8 conversion was probably the last car added to the DIYEV Garage before the clowns took the forum apart....

Happy to be here and I look forward to drive my conversion.

I will be hanging a lot in the Tesla section.

Hey Per,

good to see you here :) Please post some pictures if you have time.

Did you ever get my email from beginning of March? I'm hardly getting any emails these days and my friend said something is wrong with our mail server.

Hi Johannes !

Yes got your email.
But I have had a total madness regarding getting the time to last to much more than work and getting the family puzzle solved.
Regarding Snowmobiles, there is a possibilty that Taiga motors might be doing testing around Östersund next season.
I have initiated connections with one of the founders, we'll see where it leads.

I'll get back to you on email....
And upload some more photos.

I'd recommend using the Tesla small drive unit... the large drive will be very overpowered, big and heavy.

If you have any doubts about the small drive unit performance have a chat with Dima and Damien and watch this :)

I already own the LDU and have made all the mounts and brackets for it.
The only thing mechanical about it that I have not solved is the half shafts and the rotation of the oil pump inside the gearbox.
Have you open and tested if it can be used backwards by just swapping the inlet and outlet.
It will be mounted Like in the Mercedes B-Class with the motor in front of the hafl shafts.

I suppose that the power can be tuned down a bit.
I still also have to limit the power due to regulations in the swedish vehicle control.

You mean that the ldu cooling système could run on the other side but not the oil pump ?
I was interrested in the tesla drive unit, but as i can’t Fit it in the good side i prefer go with the leaf one.

Have a chat with Chris at Zero EV UK (here) who've done a lot of work on Tesla drive units for performance applications.

Have you checked the weight limits for your vehicle? 85kWh pack and large drive unit sounds very heavy and I know my colleagues in Amsterdam had some issues with a truck conversion they developed for Sweden.

The car has a max weight of 2400kg in my case.
But other versions of it has a max of 2600kg with the same suspension setup.
So Im hoping to get it upgraded to 2600kg.
Curb weight is 1760kg stock. So I'm hoping to drop about 350+kg with all the ICE stuff.

I might have to get it road legal for atleast 6 persons. That is what I need.

Finally some news in this thread!!!

I made some FAT mistakes when I started this build.
I totally over estimated my capabilities in the electronics area.
The partly populated board I bought from Damien never got really finished in my hands, so I begged him to sell me a tested one.
He had a tested v2 board that i got at a good price drop. Thanks D!

But I was not able to start working on that straight away and time just passed.
In the meantime version 4 and a number of new software releases passed.

Damien had sent an esp board also with the V2 board, but I have not gotten that to work with the tesla board.
I will try to flash it tomorrow to see if I can get it to talk to the LDU board.

Atleast I had some progress tonight, I managed to get my Rasberry Pi Zero setup to talk to the LDU board correctly.
So I can see that I have somethings working in the LDU board.

But the web interface in the RasPI zero is not up to date with the ESP.

Does anybody know If I can update the web interface in the RasPI so that it behaves as the latest in the ESP ?
Because then I atleast might have a backup plan if the ESP update does not work.

Best Regards

Not sure what runs on that Raspberry... the latest version of the web interface is here: https://github.com/jsphuebner/esp8266-web-interface

It needs a small modification to run on linux, see attached files.

Software update via web interface doesn't work on linux, you should better get the esp8266 running.

I was not able to flash the ESP yesterday.
I tried but there is just to much I don't grasp.
Probably I need another usb->ttl converter.

I tried with a ftdi usb-rs232 and then one of these rs232 to ttl coupled to that.
I get some kind of communidation but is acts a bit scetchy.

More attemps tonight.

I connected to the LDU board and could do serial com with it.
Read the version to be 3.93

So I guess i would like to update that.
Is there any version that is incompatible with the V2 boards ?

Ok finally some real progress!!

Managed to flash a ESP-01 with Johannes Wifi sketch yesterday,
And got it to talk to the V2 LDU board.

Now next step is to connect it a bit mor secure and update the the LDU board to FW version 4.76.

That might happen tomorrow.

Ok one major milestone is now passed.

The lift is in operation!!!!

I now have a working lift in my garage.

Now I just have to plan some more on how to spend more time with my parts abd get them to work as they should.

Hi !

No real progress the last couple of weeks, but I have been looking at upgrading the suspension along with the brakes when doing the conversion.

I have been searching a lot for a kit to convert it to air suspension.
But there does not seem to be any kits available for the C8/807.

So I started looking at adjustable coilover kits for the car.

Has anybody use a kit like this on their convertion to be able to fine tune the spring tension and ride height regarding to changed curb weight?

I looked at some different kits:

https://xyz-racing.co.uk/product/peugeo ... coilovers/

https://www.k-tec-germany.com/K-Sport-P ... ver-street

https://www.raidopower.se/product/stree ... -2002-2014

https://www.streetperformance.se/produc ... -807-02upp

They look more or less the same.

Does anyone here have any experience from any of these brands (XYZ, K-tec, D2, K-sport)?

I need to check/change shocks and spings anyway so i guees the difference in price will not be that much.

Best regards

Hi All!

No progress inb over a year....
Well not really that bad. But anyway.
Johannes was kind enough to give me a hand in the workings of the Tesla LDU that I have for my conversion.
It went really well.

and

So now i have more confidence to continue the build.
