Some people cut corners, I like to round all my corners 🥁

this is the same "Bell Housing" bracket, it's where originally the engine would mate with the transmission, I think if I ever re make it, I will cut the big plate to be the exact profile of the bell housing clam shell

IMG_2170.JPG

had to cut out an opening for the CV axle obviously, and had Ray Charles weld that up for me, [ahem] with his feet !

It’s in! It looks like you centred the drive unit. I would but the vw axles back in and set the diff between them, then no custome length axles. Then you can take the Toyota cv joints and make flanges like so

Just some simple machining and welding.

you take the Toyota cv joint/stub and cut it down, turn it round on the lathe. then make a flange with the 100mm bolt pattern that the vw cv joints have, and press that on to the turned down Toyota stub. Then get it tig welded.

Heck you could use the old flanges off the vw trans axle, as you already have them!

now you have a stub flange with the Toyota splines and the vw cv joint bolt pattern.

Now your stock vw cv axles bolt up to the Prius trans axle.

The tension mounts at Good Enuff Garage, will The Greg get the motor mounted before some randomly set arbitrary deadline, or will he loose the shop ???

back of trans arrows.jpg

we (my son and I) used the blue tape to indent the head bolts into it to give us a point of reference for drilling the holes
IMG_2113.JPG
IMG_2118.JPG

the plate had to be set back far enuff to clear the mechanical oil pump which sticks out, out of the transaxles butt

after seeing how much steel spacers actually cost I decided to cut my own, (so I went out and bought a $200 dollar chop saw - I'll show them)

here's a look at the spacers, spacering:

tack welded into place

I could have just welded the bars to the stock Prius bracket, but that would have made it much harder to assembly and disassemble, plus it may have melted the rubber bushing, so I made a plate instead
