VW Charge port PP resistance

Post by Bigpie »

Anyone got a VW charge port handy? I'm looking for the resistance between the PP pin and Earth. Thanks

And any other resistances that are in it, like CP to earth.

Hm i never measured... there should be 2K7 resistance to gnd in case PP sense line is pulled up for sensing as well. But i suspect this is done inside control VCU not inside socket. I use 2K7 pullup resistor with 3V3 sensing. Together with 220R pulled down PP-PE resistor in cable this will form a good sense circuit.

Measuring really makes sense. In the BMW they seem to use indeed resistors in the inlet, and they differ between type1 and type2, according to viewtopic.php?p=59932#p59932
It is not clear whether this is standardized or free choice of the OEM.

The VW GTE charger I'm trying to get working has coding options for socket resistor A or socket resistor B but doesn't specify what they are. Maybe it's for type 1 vs type 2.

Did you manage to get those resistance values? Only saw your post now...

I did but don't have the value to hand at the moment, it didn't help with getting the charger working though.

Just wandering, as there's one at work I could have stuck a multimeter onto if it helped.

I coded out the charge lock, but it still seemed to want it in there. Could you measure the resistances on the the lock if you get chance? Both unconnected and with a plug locked in there? The lock pin can over extend if there's no connector in there. Just to double check that.
No rush, I won't be looking at the charger again until the BMW is on the road though.

This link should be a good resource for the charge locking signals, as well as the other signals as expected from a Type 2 socket

Maybe I'll bin off the idea of the little GTE charger and get one of the more powerful ones for the BMW anyway, but I did have ODIS hooked up while I was playing around with it.

It's a shame the pico post photos are poor resolution, makes them hard to have a good look at.

The opening up of the locking mechanism was a great help in understanding PP and CP resistance. Will get a multimeter out on the back of the plug then to confirm

Somebody been very busy and done a great job explaining CP and PP . I'll have to put this in practice.
