Smart roadster ev conversion

Post by Huskte »

My plan is to use all nissan leaf components from a 2018 or newer nissan leaf using approx 30-35kwh of the 40 kwh pack to stay under 1030kg, I understand this is giving very little info but what are you guy's general opinion on this conversion.

Predicted specs:
~1000kg (including driver)
~147hp
stock smart roadster components

I think you'd have a big challenge on your hands with the packaging and the Leaf stack is rather on the bulky side.

A motorcyclist is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.

Yes I expect that it'll be a faff and a tight fit but I expect if I sacrifice what little "boot" space there is, separate the stack if necessary, and strip all the frunk lining out I should be able to fit it all in. And as someone coming from riding a moped everyday, the passenger seat and footwell will be a cavernous storage space in comparison to a diddy top box.

Hopefully i'm not proven wrong, but there's only one way to find that out.

Thank you for providing those links, looks like i've got some reading to do :).

I've done some a basic 3d mockup and it seems that as long as I use the coupe version, Then it should all fit well enough, also as long as i don't mind the stack sticking up into the boot space, which i think would be pretty cool anyway, with the glass boot giving it a proper mid engine sports car vibe

Cool, you do you! :)
Just keep an eye on the weight, which is a big challenge for our German friend[GT]:
"Yes, payload is a similarly big problem with the Smart, in addition to space. The car currently weighs 554kg. The maximum total payload is 1030kg (with a max of 465 at the front and 610 at the rear). Since I would like to shift the weight ratio a little more towards the front, I would like to maximize the front axle load.
So I have 98kg that I can add to the front and 273kg to the rear, if the minimum payload according to the TÜV for driver/passenger/luggage of 150kg has already been deducted. With the housing and the like, I'll probably get around 220kg for the batteries. The motor with all necessary parts (drive shafts, cables, support frame) weighs just over 100kg. Only 51kg remain... But I will save a bit of weight through a CFRP tailgate, CFRP engine compartment lid, small LiFePO4 12V battery instead of lead anchors, lighter wheels, etc.
But it gets really tight in the end.
"

Yes that's my primary concern

Wow, I hadn't read that far yet. His results are almost exactly the same as mine, down to the 220kg allotment for batteries and 100kg for the powertrain. Although he expects to lose an additional 100kg more off of the original car than the 200 that I had estimated, so that's interesting.

I should probably finish reading this before badgering anyone else on the forum haha.

Thanks for the help!
