I bought the 7" Pi display.
Not a RPi expert and trying to decide / figure out how to do pretty much what you're doing.

I also want to switch to Reversing camera or GPS mapping as well. Thats just switching applications.

Did you code those gauges in Qt ?
My code used the alternative GUI to Node-Red so it was some jQuery and HTML coding to get it to work. https://flows.nodered.org/node/node-red ... -uibuilder

I've dropped the raspberry pi and display since the video clip above because of the long boot-times and there is no need for an full GUI in my opinion in a car. That's the reason I for now am using a Arduino Uno and a LCD display at the moment. My plan is to replace the original instrument in the car with a Nextion display behind the original glad and chrome to get a clean look but with the ability to show some digital data as well.

Have a look here, https://www.itead.cc/nextion-nx1060p101 ... 11r-i.html

The nextion looks like a good solution. I've never used one but looks good.

We are torn between the simplicity (as far as instrument panels go) of Nextion and going with a RPi so as we can get GPS Mapping and Reversing Camera as well as the instrumentation in the one unit.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with :)

Great project! I'm starting on a 69 beetle. Tesla SDU, chevy volt battery, Tesla 10k charger.

I'm using an Arudino Mega with a 4D Systems touch screen. Their interface is quite easy to setup, you may want to take a look at them as well.
