A classe W168 - Outlander Rear differential
I bought an inexpensive donor for an electric car project. Good condition, great price. Plenty of space under the car for the battery

What inverter is it? And what's the other grey box?

Looks to be rear inverter and charger DCDC from an outlander PHEV.
The Merc engine cover must be throwing you off

That's right, it's the air filter cover. It is impossible for us to formalize the transformation, so we need to make it impossible to understand that changes have been made.
To the left of the inverter, a Webasto heater tank of 7 liters will be installed, and under it the heater itself.

Cool project, I'm following with interest!
Will you keep the original exhaust for the heater to throw people off?
Also (if you have the chance), can you post some pictures and measurements from the battery compartment?
I was always curious about it as the car was designed to be an EV originally. We had a W169 for a while and I always considered your W/V168's "bigger brother" the W414 Vaneo (German for more technical details) as one of the best city cars for a family.

A motorcyclist is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.

Did you have any issues from the cars VCU? Is it CAN based or just normal Bosch style "engine running" signal based?
I am also looking for my next donor and MB A looks very promising.
tnx

Re: A classe W168 - Outlander Rear differential
Unfortunately, I got a donor without an engine, I can not get a CAN bus listing for emulating the signals of a running engine. Does anyone have a can bus listing of a running W168-W169 engine?
I removed the oil and pump from the steering rack and installed electric power from the outlander.
