3 phase power to run car test?

Post by SKB123 »

Hi all
Apologies if this has answered/in the wrong place or been covered before.

  Question - Has anyone worked a way of powering the inverter from a 3 phase plug until I get a battery

Short introduction Trying to convert a Peugeot on a budget while leaving room to explain if I don't blow myself up. The project has a budget of 4k but it also has to be fun so it will have FWD and RWD. The most costly part of the project will be the battery pack, I could bore you with the spreadsheets and costing I have to date. I haven't made a selection yet but want to test what I have done to date.
I'm running an Auris inverter with a 2 motor chip from Damien to run the following for a start (cheaper than the Prius one :) ) - Prius gen2 gearbox at the front and an MGR in the rear
Yes, that is three motors and only 2 ways of control - The thinking is, use MG2 and MGR to start movement then turn off MGR and turn MG1 on at a set speed. This may be changed out for a rav4 inverter when I get my hands on one cheaply or another solution.

Let me know if I'm missing any info

I mean you could “possibly “ supply power to mg2 and rectify it to the dc bus.

or just wire 4 12v car batteries in series
https://bratindustries.net/ leaf motor couplers, adapter plates, custom drive train components

Three phase is 400+ volt between phases, rather too high once rectified and smoothed.

For no load running, single phase will do;

Do you think that we can do this with Damien's board too? Hopefully one of the guy's will jump in here and give some thoughts on this.
